A new report released by the United Nations states that the United States owes reparations to African-Americans for both losses from slavery and recent deaths reportedly due to police brutality.

The report was issued by the United Nations’ Working Group of Experts on African Descent and strongly condemned America’s “racist” history.

The Daily Caller reports:

“In particular, the legacy of colonial history, enslavement, racial subordination and segregation, racial terrorism and racial inequality in the United States remains a serious challenge, as there has been no real commitment to reparations and to truth and reconciliation for people of African descent,” the report read, according to the Washington Post.”

The United Nations also made the shocking statement that recent shootings by police and accusations of police brutality are related to such historically condemned acts as the lynchings and terror caused by the Klu Klux Klan.

The group also made the statement that there is a “human rights crisis” going on in the United States right now.

The Daily Caller reports:

“Contemporary police killings and the trauma that they create are reminiscent of the past racial terror of lynching,” the report stated.

The new report is a far cry from the praise the United Nations gave to the United States in regard to its progress in addressing racial tensions since the eradication of Jim Crow laws.

That report also noted that the United States still had an African-American minority.

The group’s report did not specifically name what reparations should be paid, however, it did suggest that healthcare initiatives, educational opportunities, and debt cancellation were all considerations.

A spokesman for the group, Philippine Chairman Ricardo Suna, condemned the rising “xenophobia” and “afrophobia” of America’s current presidential campaigns when interviewed Monday.

The response from the American people is in firm opposition to paying reparations.

The Daily Caller reports that “the latest poll on the matter revealed that 68 percent of Americans are opposed to reparations for slavery.”

Regardless of whether the United Nations feels that American society is implicitly biased in some way, reparations are not a logical solution to the issue.

Additionally, if one portion of the nation’s population was to receive special treatment because of historical events, it could only lead to worse racial tensions in the future.

Furthermore, some reforms cause a negative chain of events regardless of who receives the benefits.

For instance, the Democratic legislation of ObamaCare has negatively affected the nation because the standardization of insurance led to loss of private insurance and doctors, insurance companies dropping from programs, and skyrocketing premiums creating a cascade of people who can no longer afford them.

What are your thoughts? Would the payment of reparations to the African-American population benefit the United States? Or would it only lead to worse racial tensions?
