sick babyWhen the pastor’s wife of a local church in Indiana stepped outside, she was in for the surprise of a lifetime.

It was near a pile of trash, she saw a pile of coats moving…

Underneath the coats, she discovered an abandoned baby boy who was only 12 hours old.

According to Fox 59, the baby was taken to the hospital, and suffered mild dehydration but was initially said to be in good health.

Although Angeline Denney did not want to give an interview or speak on camera, she did post the following statement on her church’s Facebook page:

“I have read the police press release and do not have additional information that would enhance the infant’s well-being or help to locate his biological family. I will be praying for him and his family, and I ask that others pray, too.

I do want to take this opportunity to highlight Indiana’s Safe Haven Law, which:

“Allows a distressed parent to give up an unwanted infant safely, legally, and confidentially,” and “permits babies less than 45 days old to be given up at any hospital emergency room, fire station, or police station in Indiana.” I want to emphasize that the law permits the parent to select a relative, minister/priest, social worker, or friend to take the baby to the Safe Haven location.

I want to encourage everyone to extend grace and mercy to the people for whom this law was created. Parenting is exhausting, demanding work which can easily overwhelm anyone. If we truly want to save the lives of children, then we must also make it “safe” for distressed parents to utilize the Safe Haven Law. We must offer support and love to those who make hard choices that ultimately serve the child’s best interest.

Finally, remember that “the Lord is not slow about his promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing for any to perish but for all to come to repentance.” (2 Peter 3:9 NASB) This congregation is one of many places within this community where individuals may come to discover more about God’s mercy and grace. I pray that you will seek a safe haven in Christ.”

Fox 59 reports investigators are still looking for the mother of the abandoned baby and are pleading with her to turn herself in.

While initially the baby appeared to be in good condition, Fox59 reports the baby is now being treated for an infection.

They would not mention the infection by name, but because of the symptoms the baby has developed from the infection, they say it’s crucial that the mother comes forward for her own health.

Investigators fear if she does not get medical attention immediately, the complications could be “life-threatening.”
