87-year-old liberal Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s health worried Democrats for years.

Liberals panicked over the idea of Donald Trump picking her replacement.

Now Ruth Bader Ginsburg is facing a decision that could change the election.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg stunned Americans when she announced two weeks ago she was in the hospital to receive treatment for cancer on her liver.

Ginsburg previously underwent treatment for pancreatic and lung cancer and this announcement immediately stoked speculation about her retirement.

That talk only intensified when the Supreme Court announced Ginsburg was in the hospital again for a non-surgical procedure involving a stent.

“Justice Ginsburg underwent a minimally invasive non-surgical procedure today at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City to revise a bile duct stent that was originally placed at Sloan Kettering in August 2019,” the Supreme Court’s statement on the matter read. “According to her doctors, stent revisions are common occurrences and the procedure, performed using endoscopy and medical imaging guidance, was done to minimize the risk of future infection. The Justice is resting comfortably and expects to be released from the hospital by the end of the week.”

Ginsburg’s been in and out of the hospital multiple times over the last two years.

Many Washington insiders believe Ginsburg is trying to hang on through the election in hopes that Joe Biden wins the election and picks her replacement.

Democrats have two worries about Ginsburg.

The first is that she will retire before the election because of health reasons.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell already stated that the Senate will confirm President Trump’s nominee should a vacancy arise even though it is an election year.

McConnell explained that unlike 2016 when Justice Antonin Scalia passed away, the same party controls both the White House and the Senate.

But the bigger worry for Democrats is if Justice Ginsburg’s health becomes a campaign issue and the country makes the election a referendum on who it wants picking Supreme Court justices.

That is exactly what happened in 2016 after Justice Scalia tragically died in February of that year.

In 2016, voters that listed picking Supreme Court justices broke 56 percent to 41 percent for Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton.

Considering Trump won the election by about 77,000 votes over three states, voters picking Trump over Clinton on the issue of the Supreme Court may have proven decisive.

The Supreme Court has always proven to be a more potent issue for Republicans than Democrats.

If the 2020 election turns into a referendum on who the American people want picking Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s replacement, that could prove a turning point for Donald Trump’s re-election bid.
