The media is pushing a feeding frenzy over manufactured Trump scandals.

And some Republicans are starting to crack.

In fact, one just stabbed Trump in the back in the worst way.

Republican Congressman Justin Amash of Michigan has been a reliable conservative vote.

He’s also been a Trump critic when Trump’s policies have conflicted with his principles.

But he made a mistake when he responded to the leak of a supposed memo written by James Comey which claimed Trump tried to shut down the FBI investigation into former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn.

Amash stated that if the allegations were true it was worthy of impeachment.

The Hill reports:

“Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich.) on Wednesday said if the reports about Trump’s pressure on Comey are true, it would merit impeachment.

Amash spoke a day after The New York Times on Tuesday reported that Trump tried to pressure Comey to stop investigating Flynn.

According to a memo written by Comey after the February meeting, the president told Comey “I hope you can let this go.”

Asked by The Hill if the details in the memo would merit impeachment if they’re true, Amash replied: “Yes.”

“But everybody gets a fair trial in this country,” Amash added as he left a House GOP conference meeting.”

But the allegations have already been knocked down.

Comey testified on May 3rd that he had never felt political pressure to stop an investigation.

The Washington Post reports on the transcript of his testimony:

“HIRONO: So if the Attorney General or senior officials at the Department of Justice opposes a specific investigation, can they halt that FBI investigation?

COMEY: In theory yes.

HIRONO: Has it happened?

COMEY: Not in my experience. Because it would be a big deal to tell the FBI to stop doing something that — without an appropriate purpose. I mean where oftentimes they give us opinions that we don’t see a case there and so you ought to stop investing resources in it. But I’m talking about a situation where we were told to stop something for a political reason, that would be a very big deal. It’s not happened in my experience.”

And acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe testified there had been no White House interference in the investigation.

Amash may have been unaware of those developments.

But the liberal media used him as evidence that there were cracks in Trump’s support.

Trump never tried to exert influence over the investigation or stop Comey.

This is a media manufactured scandal that Republicans need to stop giving fodder to.
