According to a recent poll, a majority of Americans have trouble trusting President Trump to handle the conflicts with North Korea. And this is a big problem – especially since North Korea is expanding and advancing its missile program at an alarming rate.

The poll’s results show that 77% of Democrats flat-out don’t trust Trump to handle the conflict effectively. Meanwhile, 81% of Republicans disagree.

The poll results also show that the majority of all respondents (74%) believe that America has a responsibility to protect our allies in East Asia. However, 13% say we do not have an obligation to protect them.

The poll was given to a group of 1,005 adults between September 11th and 12th this year. This was before North Korea’s firing of a ballistic missile over Japan.

Despite the country’s wavering opinion of him, Trump seems confident as he  moves forward through the conflict. For instance, the president gave a warning of “fury and fire” earlier this year if Pyongyang decides to continue to threaten the U.S.

Since then, Trump has spoken with South Korea’s leader, and has even been calling Kim Jong Un, the North Korean leader, “Rocket Man.”

In addition, according to a recent Tweet from Trump, he has spoken with South Korea’s President Moon. “Asked him how Rocket Man is doing. Long gas lines forming in North Korea. Too bad!” he says in the tweet.
