Democrats smeared Attorney General William Barr as public enemy number one.

Nancy Pelosi and her crew had made it their mission to destroy the Attorney General.

But a top Democrat’s plan to jail William Barr just took this awful turn for the worse.

House Oversight and Reform Committee Chairman Elijah Cummings oversaw a vote to hold Attorney General William Barr and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross in contempt.

Democrats are trying to manufacture a scandal surrounding the Trump administration adding a question about citizenship to the 2020 census.

Democrats want illegal aliens counted in the census because it will increase the population in blue states and lead to Democrat strongholds gaining Congressional seats at the expense of red states.

The Trump administration wants to protect the voting power of all Hispanic voters by including the question to determine a fair and accurate count on the population.

Liberal groups sued and the question is now before the Supreme Court.

Democrats’ demands for documents about the citizenship question increased after the daughter of a deceased redistricting expert produced documents from his hard drive that claimed a citizenship question would benefit Republicans.

The Trump administration argued that they never used this analysis as part of their drafting of the census, and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross – whose agency oversees the census – had no knowledge of this document when he testified in the legal battle over the citizenship question.

Democrats demanded the documents anyway and the Trump administration asserted executive privilege over them.

Oversight and Reform Committee chair Elijah Cummings raged to the media after his panel voted to hold Barr and Ross in contempt.

“This begs the question: what is being hidden?” Cummings said.

“This does not appear to be an effort to engage in good faith negotiations or accommodations. Instead, it appears to be another example of the administration’s blanket defiance of Congress’s constitutionally mandated responsibilities.”

Assistant Attorney General Stephen Boyd then wrote a letter to Chairman Cummings blasting the committee’s vote to hold Attorney General Barr in contempt.

“These documents are protected from disclosure by the deliberative process, attorney-client communications, or attorney work product components of executive privilege,” Boyd declared.

“Regrettably, you have made these assertions necessary by your insistence upon scheduling a premature contempt vote,” Boyd added.

Secretary Ross also eviscerated the Democrats contempt vote.

“The Democrats have continued to attack this administration on dubious grounds, and they aren’t going to let the facts get in the way of their own concocted stories,” Ross exclaimed.

“By holding a contempt vote, the committee has already demonstrated its scorn for the Constitution, continually refusing to engage in the constitutionally-mandated accommodation process. That is far more serious than the empty stunt the committee performed today.”

Now that the Oversight and Reform Committee voted to hold Barr and Ross in contempt, it is up to Speaker Pelosi and her team to decide how far they want to push this fight.
