The fight to get the wall funded has made the New Year start with quite a bit of contention.

The government is in a state of partial shutdown, millions of federal workers wages have been delayed. Essential offices of the government are closed. All because the Democrats are unwilling to grant Trump the money needed to fund the wall.

Trump is obviously frustrated about their stubbornness. In 2013, the Democrats approved a spending bill that would have granted 8 billion dollars to be put towards border security (fencing/wall) and now they won’t cough up more than 1.3 billion – even though Trump’s asking for a little less than half of what they approved back in 2013.

To make his point about the hypocrisy on the left, Trump invoked the former President as well as his chief rival in the 2016 election to show just how disingenuous the Democrats are in their protestations,

Trump Quote Pro Wall Statements From Hillary and Obama

In an attempt to demonstrate that the Democrats are only denying funds for the wall based on political reasons, Trump quoted Obama and Hillary’s pro-wall comments.

The first quote from Obama read:

“We simply cannot allow people to pour into the United States undetected, undocumented, unchecked…’ Barrack Obama, 2005.

The second came from Hillary:

I voted, when I was a Senator, to build a barrier to try to prevent illegal immigrants from coming in…’ Hillary Clinton, 2015,”

Then Trump showed exactly why he wants the wall in a follow-up Tweet

“….The only reason they do not want to build a Wall is that Walls Work! 99% of our illegal Border crossings will end, crime in our Country will go way down and we will save billions of dollars a year! A properly planned and constructed Wall will pay for itself many times a year!” he added in a subsequent post.

The Democrats are holding the government hostage, now.

And while the pantomime their innocence in all of this, the one thing that is obvious is they were always in favor of a wall – until Trump popularized it.

Government Shutdown Could Stretch On For Weeks

The Democrats are insisting that Trump reopen the government, threatening that if he doesn’t then there’s no chance that negotiations will go anywhere.

At the end of the week, on Jan 5th. Vice President Mike Pence and staffers met with Democrats to ask for the money for the wall. The Democrats wouldn’t budge.

A member of the Democrat party said:

“Democratic staff in the room were clear that White House must support re-opening government immediately and that it will grow increasingly hard to start formal negotiations with government closed,” the source said. “Administration officials refused.”

Trump let the Americans know he’s incredibly serious about the state of the wall, even going as far as to telling the country he’s willing to declare a state of national emergency if it isn’t funded.

White House acting chief of staff Mick Mulvaney said during an interview set to air Sunday that Trump is offering to take a concrete wall “off the table” to compromise with Democrats.
