Chuck SchumerChuck Schumer is fighting a losing battle.

Not only is his party set to lose the upcoming Senate elections for the third election in a row, but his own position as head of the Senate Democrats is now in danger.

And now, one top Schumer ally is in serious trouble thanks to one stunning announcement.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer has had one of the worst years of anyone in Washington D.C.

After failing to retake control of the Senate in the 2018 elections despite the fact that Democrats managed to flip the House of Representatives and install Nancy Pelosi as Speaker, Schumer ended up watching his party actually lose seats in the Senate, something which hardly ever happens to the opposition party in a midterm election.

To make matters worse, Schumer has been bombarded with an array of bad news which has only made the prospect of Democrats retaking control of the Senate in 2020 seem bleaker than ever.

And now, even some of Schumer’s closest political allies are in serious danger, and the threat is coming from fellow Democrats.

“Rep. Joe Kennedy III said Monday he is considering a primary challenge against Sen. Ed Markey, a fellow Massachusetts Democrat,” reports the Daily Caller.

The news comes after Schumer has spent the better part of the summer struggling to court top tier candidates to run against Republicans in critical Senate tossup races heading into the 2020 elections.

And with everything on the line, the last thing Schumer needs is a primary challenge of one of his top allies within his own party.

“Over the past few weeks I’ve begun to consider a run for the U.S. Senate. This isn’t a decision I’m approaching lightly and — to be completely candid — I wasn’t expecting to share my thoughts so soon,” Kennedy wrote on a Facebook post.

If Kennedy runs against Markey, it could trigger a civil war within the Democratic Party right before one of the most important Senate election cycles in decades.

And that’s a serious danger that Chuck Schumer cannot afford, not when his party is defending vulnerable races in multiple states like Alabama.

“Markey is considered one of the most liberal senators in office. He is a leading sponsor of the Green New Deal, the multi-trillion climate change plan New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez proposed,” reports the Daily Caller.

This means that not only would Schumer potentially lose a key ally in the Senate, but Democrats on the far left may have to spend time, money, and resources helping to bail out one of their best votes in the upper chamber of Congress rather than support far left Democrats in other critical Senate contests.

With every race across the country set to make the difference on which party will control the Senate in 2021, the stakes have never been higher.

And for Schumer, the news that Markey could be primaried couldn’t have come at a worse time.
