Democrats believed a blue wave would sweep them into power in 2018.
The media promoted the idea that Americans had turned against Donald Trump and would vote out Republicans.
However, a murder may have just destroyed the Democrats chances for victory in November.
An Unspeakable Murder
20-year-old Iowa college student Mollie Tibbetts disappeared last month.
Police have arrested 24-year-old illegal alien Cristhian Bahena Rivera for her murder.
Americans are demanding to know why authorities permitted an illegal alien with a deportation hearing to remain in the country.
Tibbetts murder has now catapulted immigration front and center in the midterm election debate.
Democrats protect illegal aliens like Bahena Rivera through sanctuary city policies.
Sanctuary city laws allow local law enforcement to ignore federal immigration laws.
The Political World Reacts
Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds expressed her sympathy to the Tibbetts family in a statement.
Reynolds wrote, “Today, our state woke up to heart-wrenching news. As a mother, I can’t imagine the sorrow felt by the Tibbetts family. We are all suffering over the death of Mollie, knowing that it could have been our own daughter, sister or friend.”
The Iowa Governor blamed a broken immigration system for Tibbetts death.
“As Iowans, we are heartbroken, and we are angry. We are angry that a broken immigration system allowed a predator like this to live in our community, and we will do all we can bring justice to Mollie’s killer,” Reynolds concluded.
Texas Governor Greg Abbot clarified the stakes of the 2018 election.
Democrats support sanctuary cities and protecting illegal aliens.
Republicans stand for securing the border and cracking down on illegal immigration.
Governor Abbott tweeted:
An undocumented immigrant is charged for murder of Mollie Tibbetts, the Iowa college student who went missing on July 18. This is why so many Americans are angry about sanctuary cities. It’s why Texas banned sanctuary cities. It’s about safety. #tcot https://t.co/D377GvPQMt

What This Means For 2018
President Trump spoke about Tibbetts murder during a rally in West Virginia.
“You saw what happened to that incredible, beautiful young woman. Should have never happened,” Trump declared.
The President tied the murder to his pitch for the midterm elections.
“The Democrats want to turn America into one big fat sanctuary city for criminal aliens,” Trump exclaimed.
Trump explained that the nation’s immigration laws are a disgrace and Americans need to elect more Republicans to enact tougher border control laws.
“We’re getting them changed, but we have to get more Republicans. We have to get ’em,” Trump concluded.
Immigration destroyed the Democrats in 2016.
Donald Trump used the issue to win over voters who had twice voted for Barack Obama.
Republicans are hoping to repeat that success in 2018 and are counting on immigration to do the trick.
If the GOP can push the issue of Tibbetts murder – and the larger debate about illegal immigration – to the center of the election fight, they can hang onto their Congressional majorities.
The Democrats far-left base supports unpopular positions like open borders and abolishing ICE thus reducing their appeal to voters.
Republicans believe Americans will choose the GOP if they are faced with a choice between the open-borders left and Donald Trump’s Make America Great Again agenda.
