The GOP has definitely bumbled their handling of the Benghazi investigation, at least as of late.

Not to say the 18 months Trey Gowdy and his committee have spent investigating the deaths of 4 Americans wasn’t worth it would be misspeaking. It certainly has been worth it.

But when Kevin McCarthy spoke to the media a few weeks ago and said the investigation had done a great job of poking holes in Clinton’s veneer it did make it so things “got off the rails” so to speak.

In all honesty most Americans who’re familiar with Benghazi know this wasn’t an election themed witch hunt.

The truth needed to be found and so when Trey Gowdy took lead on the investigation he wasn’t doing so in an attempt to better bolster GOP candidates’ collective chances at winning…he was doing it to honor the dead and to bring those responsible to justice.

But here’s the thing. Now that the investigation has gone for as long as it has Trey Gowdy is beginning to show clear signs of discontent.

In fact he said of the recent party blunder concerning McCarthy’s comments that it’s made it so the last few week have been “the worst of his life.”

No exaggeration.

Even though he used to get death threats in his previous line of work he says the attacks on his character have been far more damaging and draining.

“Attacks on your character, attacks on your motives, are 1,000-times worse than anything you can do to anybody physically — at least it is for me.” Gowdy told Politico.

Part of the reason he’s being attacked with such ferocity at this time is because of what was slated to happen on Oct 22nd.

Clinton, slated to appear before the Committee for the first time, was doing her best to get under Gowdy’s skin.

And he knew it.  He said, “I don’t think that that is a coincidence; it’s an attempt to marginalize and impugn the credibility of the panel that’s going to be asking her questions.”

But he kept pressing forward anyways.

Perhaps that’s why it’s most interesting to note Gowdy had some sense of foreboding regarding the investigation. According to Gowdy he said Rep. Peter Roskam (R-Ill.) warned him shortly this wasn’t going to be pretty.

He described it as an “older brother saying, ‘You keep believing in the tooth fairy.'”

“I knew it would get worse, but I didn’t know how bad,” Gowdy said.

Reflecting on the past 18 month of his life and the tumult surrounding the investigation Gowdy delivered a stinger to Mrs. Clinton.

He stated nothing he was going through was worth it when it came to taking down Mrs. Clinton.

Gowdy commented on her saying, “You are not worth 18 months of my life, with all due respect.”

“Four dead people are, but you’re not,” he said.

Gowdy has implied he will stay the course until it’s done, despite what all the nay-sayers and deriders may say.
