Never-Trump Republicans continue to plot President Trump’s downfall.

They are the traitors within and can be even more dangerous than the Democrats.

And this RINO Senator just turned his back on Donald Trump in one unforgivable way.

Mitt Romney is the leader of the Never-Trump wing of the Republican Party.

The two-time failed Presidential candidate is the spokesman for the big government, pro-amnesty, pro-international trade deal donor class version of Republicanism.

RINOs like Romney lost control of the party when grassroots conservatives – fed up with the establishment – powered Donald Trump to the GOP nomination and then into the White House.

Never-Trumpers like Romney have seethed and searched for their moment to strike back ever since.

So Romney judged the vote on a resolution of disapproval over Donald Trump’s declaration of a national emergency to use military funds to build the border wall as his moment.

Rather than stand with President Trump and the conservative base, Romney locked arms with Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi and voted against building a wall.

Romney put out a statement virtue signaling to the media that this vote was supposedly about “principle.”

“This is a vote for the Constitution and for the balance of powers that is at its core,” Romney wrote. “For the Executive Branch to override a law passed by Congress would make it the ultimate power rather than a balancing power.”

Romney knew his vote put him in hot water with the GOP base, so he lied and tried to claim he was in favor of a wall.

“This is not a vote against border security. In fact, I agree that a physical barrier is urgently needed to help ease the humanitarian crisis at the southern border, and the administration already has $4.5 billion available existing authority to fund a barrier–even without an emergency declaration,” Romney continued.

But then Romney falsely claimed that Trump’s move violated the Constitution’s separation of powers and Republicans must oppose Trump’s executive overreach.

“I am seriously concerned that overreach by the Executive Branch is an invitation to further expansion and future presidents. We experience a similar erosion of congressional authority with President Obama’s unilateral immigration orders– which I strenuously opposed. In the case before us now, where Congress has enacted specific policy, to consent to an emergency declaration would be both inconsistent with my beliefs and contrary to my oath to defend the Constitution,” the former failed Presidential candidate concluded.

This was a lie.

Congress explicitly granted Presidents the power to declare a national emergency through the 1976 National Emergency Act.

The act never defined what an emergency was.

Trump did not invent himself a new power like Obama did when he rewrote immigration law to grant the illegal DACA executive amnesty deal.

But Romney needed a fig leaf to hide his true intentions.

First, Romney is in favor of open borders and amnesty.

Conservatives believe he will do anything to preserve his paymasters in the donor class with their endless supply of cheap foreign labor.

Second, critics believe Romney and other RINO Republicans think that if they can embarrass Trump on this vote, it will help set him up for defeat in 2020 and allow the establishment to reclaim control of the party once Trump loses re-election.
