Former South Carolina Congressman Trey Gowdy has made a new career for himself as a Fox News contributor.

But the wisdom of that decision is now in serious jeopardy.

That’s because no one could believe what Trey Gowdy went on Fox News and admitted to.

Fox News viewers expect a fair and balanced approach to the Second Amendment and coverage of mass shootings.

Instead, they tuned in to Fox News and saw Trey Gowdy tell the audience that Gowdy would be willing to sacrifice every right laid out in the Constitution – including the right to keep and bear arms – in order to prevent another tragedy.

The right-to-life is the most fundamental, basic, primary right that we have. It is the right from which all other rights emanate,” Gowdy declared. “Doesn’t matter if you are a right to a lawyer if you are dead. It doesn’t matter if you are the right to free speech if you are dead. Doesn’t matter if you have the right to keep and bear arms if you are dead.

On a personal level, I’m willing to subrogate any of my other rights to avoid another Sandy Hook, another pulse nightclub, another day like we had yesterday. But I’m out of politics and I’m not going back,” Gowdy added.

Fox News viewers were stunned.

Cable TV pundits expressing a willingness to eliminate the Second Amendment are the type of gun-grabbing fanatics that pollute the airwaves over at CNN and MSNBC.

But Gowdy continued adding that every right has limits.

Keep in mind, you don’t have a single right for which there is not some corresponding responsibility or restriction. Every right you have has a restriction,” the former Congressman exclaimed.

Gowdy then proceeded to confuse viewers by executing a 180 degree turn and then claiming that new laws would not stop mass shootings.

Just more laws that are not going to be enforced is a panacea and is not going to work. Show me a law to prevent the next Sandy Hook and sign me up as a husband and father,” Gowdy added.

Show me the law and sign me up and I will give up any other right I have,” Gowdy stated.

Gowdy was all over the map in this segment.

The Fox News contributor began his remarks ranting about how the Second Amendment wasn’t all that important and could be done away with at a moment’s notice because the gun-grabbers fooled a bunch of people into thinking new gun control could actually make a difference.

But none of the proposed gun grabs would have stopped either the tragedies in El Paso or Dayton.

The killers purchased their weapons legally and passed background checks.

And red flag gun confiscation orders allow anti-gun judges to hand out permission slips to police to kick people’s doors in and confiscate their firearms without any due process protections.

Fox News expected Gowdy – who was elected in the 2010 Tea Party wave – to stick to principles and defend core conservative values like the right to keep and bear arms.

Instead, they witnessed a bizarre act of emotional performance art where Gowdy admitted the entire bill of rights was up for negotiation to appease the gun grabbers in the wake of these terrible tragedies.
