This latest Omar firestorm will have major 2020 consequences.
And that’s because Ilhan Omar has a lot of explaining to do after this confession about terrorism.
Like many Democrats, Omar criticized Donald Trump for ordering an airstrike that terminated Qassem Soleimani – the second most powerful man in Iran who was responsible for killing over 600 American soldiers in Iraq.
Omar and other Democrats come from the Barack Obama school of appeasing and coddling Islamic terrorists.
On social media, Omar expressed her outrage that Donald Trump eliminated a murderous terrorist and claimed that she supported impeaching Donald Trump for bringing Soleimani to justice.
“So what if Trump wants war, knows this leads to war and needs the distraction? Real question is, will those with congressional authority step in and stop him? I know I will,” Omar raged.
Texas Senator Ted Cruz dunked on Omar’s tweet pointing out that even the Obama administration listed Soleimani as a terrorist.
Cruz also asked why Omar wasn’t outraged at the hundreds of American soldiers Soleimani killed and considered the real crime President Trump defending American forces from the threat of an imminent attack.
“According to the Obama Department of Defense, Qasem Soleimani was a terrorist directly responsible for the murder of over 500 US service men & women. Why are congressional Dems outraged that he’s finally dead?” Cruz fired back.
Omar did not know well enough to quit while she was ahead and continued to engage Cruz.
In Omar’s follow up, the Minnesota Congresswoman actually called President Trump ordering a military response to terminate a terrorist plotting to attack American military and diplomatic personnel as an ‘assassination.’
“We are outraged the president would assassinate a foreign official, possibly setting off another war without Congressional authorization and has zero plan to deal with the consequences. But of course you know that,” Omar outrageously responded.
Omar made a number of false claims in her tweet.
In his remarks to reporters explaining why Trump ordered the strike to take out Soleimani, the President made sure to say the United States did not want war with Iran.
“We took action last night to stop a war. We did not take action to start a war,” the President told the press.
The President also clearly stated the United States was not interested in another nation-building war and did not intend this strike as the first step toward regime change.
If Democrats want to make 2020 a referendum on the President’s judgment, then Donald Trump and the GOP will be happy to have that debate.
Democrats will have to defend the fact that Ilhan Omar and her pro-terrorist attacks on Donald Trump for taking out Soleimani are the party’s official platform heading into the 2020 election.
