Rumors have been swirling around Washington and the media about Hillary Clinton’s political future.
A report by Matt Drudge claimed Hillary was pointed to make a dramatic entry into the Presidential contest.
And Hillary Clinton said these two words about her 2020 intentions. They left jaws on the ground.
Media mogul Matt Drudge set the political world on fire with a shocking report that former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg would name Clinton as his Vice Presidential running mate should Bloomberg win the Democrat Party nomination for President.
Drudge’s report came on the heels of Clinton leaving open the possibility of being on the Democrat ticket in the fall in an interview with talk show host Ellen DeGeneres.
Clinton responded to DeGeneres:
“Look, it’s like when Barack Obama asked me to be secretary of state. I was shocked. I had no idea he was going to ask me, and I turned him down twice. He said, ‘I need, you know, look, the economy is in freefall. It’s a catastrophe. I’ve got to focus on that. We’ve got problems around the world. You go focus on that.’
“I said, ‘No, no, I’m happy where I am. You get somebody else. I’m sure there’s good people around.’ And the second time I said, ‘No, Mr. President-elect, I’m not gonna do it,’ he said, ‘I’m not calling you again until you say yes.’ And so I’ll tell you, I started thinking about it, and I thought if I’d won, and I’d wanted to ask him to do something, I would have wanted him to do that for me.
“So I never say never because I do believe in serving my country, but it’s not going to happen.”
Some political experts believe Drudge and Clinton actually knew there was no chance of Clinton serving as anyone’s Vice President and merely played along to help Bloomberg distract from a batch of negative stories that blanketed the media, highlighting Bloomberg’s long history of racist and sexist comments.
The gambit worked as political reporters largely ignored the negative stories about Bloomberg to focus on the preposterous fake news about Bloomberg picking Clinton as his running mate.
As a card-carrying member of the Democrat establishment Clinton had no issue doing a favor for Bloomberg since most Democrat elites are slowly – and quietly – moving to Bloomberg’s campaign.
Clinton made it obvious to everyone else that Drudge floated a story just to help Bloomberg move past a bad news cycle at a Clinton Global Initiative event in Puerto Rico.
An attendee asked Clinton if she would be interested in accepting the Vice Presidential nomination and Clinton shot it down by exclaiming “oh no!”
“Oh, no! I’m just waiting and watching as this plays out. I will support whoever the nominee is, because I think for all the reasons you can imagine, and here in Puerto Rico there are many, we need to have a new President for our country. And for all the American citizens, including the ones that live right here in Puerto Rico, and I want to see Puerto Rican American citizens be able to vote for President,” Clinton responded.
