Viewers have raised questions in recent months about the tone of the coverage on Fox News.

No less than Rush Limbaugh claimed the network was turning into a “Never Trump” channel.

And now Fox News had one surprise for Donald Trump. It left Trump’s head spinning.

“Fox News Sunday” host Chris Wallace has assumed the role of the face of Fox News Channel’s “straight news” programming.

Liberal media critics routinely smear Fox News as “state TV” because primetime opinion hosts Sean Hannity, Tucker Carlson and Laura Ingraham all support the President.

Wallace tried to combat these attacks by using his high profile on Fox to bend over backwards to hype up the Democrats’ impeachment case and paint a dire picture surrounding the President’s guilt.

Back in December, Wallace claimed the Democrats’ case against President Trump was “far broader” than the charges against Bill Clinton 20 years ago.

“I’m not talking about whether or not this story is true or not. But the allegation that President Trump conditioned support for a key foreign policy ally on political benefit to him strikes me as not narrow but far broader than the Clinton impeachment and the effort that was made by you and Republicans then to impeach him,” Wallace claimed.

Wallace made this insane claim despite the fact that Clinton committed an actual crime – lying under oath – whereas the Democrats leveled nothing but political charges against Donald Trump.

Many Fox News viewers were outraged that Wallace would choose not to report the truth about impeachment and instead pushed the Democrats’ talking points to win applause from fake news media critics.

But on the day the Senate acquitted President Trump, Wallace changed his tune.

Wallace cited a brand new Gallup poll showing President Trump with the highest approval rating of his Presidency to declare that impeachment only served to strengthen the President’s political positioning heading in to the General Election.

“I think you’d have to say that Donald Trump is better off now than he was when the impeachment process began,” Wallace said. “He’s had a number of bipartisan successes on trade deals, the economy is rolling along. The Gallup poll just came out. It’s the highest he’s had in this presidency, 49 percent,” Wallace explained.

When the impeachment inquiry began in October, Gallup measured President Trump’s approval rating at 39 percent.

That meant the only thing the Democrats’ impeachment witch hunt served to accomplish was increasing President Trump’s approval rating by a full 10 points.

For once, Wallace could not ignore the facts.

The political disaster Democrats inflicted upon themselves with the impeachment witch hunt was so severe and obvious that not even the most comfortable creatures of the Washington establishment could deny the consequences.

President Trump has repeatedly complained about Fox News Channel’s coverage during impeachment because anchors like Wallace gave a platform for Democrat Party talking points.

But the collapse of the impeachment effort and Wallace’s reaction could signal that Fox is going back to “fair and balanced” news coverage.
