Never before in modern history has there been such a large-scale shutdown.

There is a huge amount of uncertainty and many lives have been thrown into chaos.

Donald Trump calmed coronavirus panic with one well-timed message to the public.

There’s no guidebook for how to deal with this new coronavirus that came out of Wuhan, China.

Most illnesses are a lot easier to contain but the coronavirus’s long incubation time, 3-14 days, makes it hard to trace and for many people the symptoms are mild like a regular cold.

Last time there was a pandemic on this scale was 1919, over a hundred years ago. The attempts to stop its spread were almost nonexistent.

The illness was a calamity but there was less economic impact.

The government has chosen to go the route of closing things down and promoting social distancing, the question is where to go from there.

All government guidelines should be followed, the elderly and people with preexisting conditions should be especially careful.

Shutting down the economy does flatten the curve and the shutdown has helped America get out of the flu season which is helpful.

Even if the Chinese coronavirus doesn’t respond like the normal flu to heat, there will be more hospital beds available that are taken up with flu patients during the winter.

What happens next?

There aren’t going to be any perfect solutions. It’s a balancing act between keeping the economy going and keeping the hospital running.

Donald Trump is making the case that America has to be careful not to overreact and not to underreact.

According to The Daily Wire:

On March 16, Trump called on Americans to self-isolate in a set of guidelines titled “15 Days To Slow The Spread.” The guidelines called on people to avoid gatherings of more than 10 people for the next 15 days, avoid “eating or drinking in bars, restaurants, and food courts,” and cut back on social visits.

But millions of people are now self-quarantining and many stores have empty shelves. Businesses across the country — large and small — have been hit hard and the stock market has plunged to their worst losses in decades.

In a late-night post Sunday on Twitter, Trump said that after the 15-day period ends, the nation will need to reassess the approach to COVID-19.

“WE CANNOT LET THE CURE BE WORSE THAN THE PROBLEM ITSELF. AT THE END OF THE 15 DAY PERIOD, WE WILL MAKE A DECISION AS TO WHICH WAY WE WANT TO GO!” Trump wrote.

Most Americans can’t afford to sit at home for the next 12 months until a vaccine is found, and the American government can’t afford to shut down the economy until then.

If America does shut down for a shorter amount of time like 10-12 weeks, there could end up being a surge of cases after the restrictions are lifted.

Even weeks after shutting down their economy, Italy is still seeing their number of cases go slowly up.

There’s no road map on what to do.

New York listened to Trump and is starting clinical hydroxychloroquine as a treatment, and if a successful treatment is available then it eases the burden on the healthcare system and allows the economy to resume to a more normal state.

The future is unknown, that’s why Trump is taking each day at a time, making the choice that is best for America at the moment.
