Left-wing journalists, Democrats, and Never Trump Republicans are terrified that Donald Trump will attack the liberal world order.

This global system that was set up after World War 2 has allowed other nations to benefit from the United States footing the bill for defense and agreeing to international trade deals.

That’s why world leaders were shocked when Donald Trump send this letter that broke the back of the liberal world order.

Donald Trump was elected President to put America First.

Past Presidents – especially Barack Obama – were eager to enter into international agreements and institutions that eroded the United States sovereignty.

One institution President Trump has repeatedly questioned is NATO.

During the campaign, Trump blasted the alliance as “obsolete” because it was put together to fight an enemy that no longer exists – the Soviet Union.

Trump felt NATO should be reoriented towards fighting radical Islamic terrorism.

As President, Trump has also been troubled by the fact that very few NATO members actually meet the alliance’s requirement of spending two percent of their GDP on national defense.

These nations build large welfare states because America foots the bill for their defense.

President Trump has complained loudly about this imbalance, but he is now prepared to back up his tough talk.

Trump fired off a letter in June to leaders of NATO nations – including Germany, Norway, Belgium and Canada – taking them to task for shirking their responsibility.

The President informed them that unless they met their defense spending obligations, the United States was prepared to re-evaluate its troop commitments.

The New York Times obtained excerpts of the letter and reported:

“As we discussed during your visit in April, there is growing frustration in the United States that some allies have not stepped up as promised,” Mr. Trump wrote to Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany in a particularly pointed letter, according to someone who saw it and shared excerpts with The New York Times. “The United States continues to devote more resources to the defense of Europe when the Continent’s economy, including Germany’s, are doing well and security challenges abound. This is no longer sustainable for us.”

“Growing frustration,” Mr. Trump wrote, “is not confined to our executive branch. The United States Congress is concerned, as well.”

Establishment politicians and pundits were horrified.

But Donald Trump was not elected to serve a globalist agenda.

The American people want to see the status quo disrupted.

Past U.S. Presidents have whined that NATO members don’t meet their defense obligations.

Not until Donald Trump came into office did any of them take any meaningful action.

And even though the establishment howled when Trump removed the United States from Obama’s Paris Global Warming Accords and tore up the Iran deal, putting the interests of America first is why the President enjoys a strong bond with his base.

Do you agree with President Trump’s America First policy to have other nations spend more of their own money on defense?
