The 2020 Democratic primary is heating up.

With such a crowded field, one small slip up could cost a candidate everything.

And one Democratic presidential hopeful saw their campaign end after one explosive interview.

Democratic New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand made headlines last week after announcing a run for president.

The Democratic Senator, who holds the seat Hillary Clinton once held in the U.S. Senate, is just the latest in a long stretch of high-profile Democratic presidential candidates who have thrown their hat in the ring over the past month.

Despite high hopes however, Gillibrand’s campaign is already off to a horrific start.

The New York Democrat took to CNN this weekend to share her thoughts on her candidacy, as well as build good will with the left-leaning network.

Instead, Gillibrand ended the interview in the worst way imaginable, by having some aspects of her record called out by CNN’s Jake Tapper as nearly identical to President Trump’s.

The Daily Caller reports, “Democratic New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand claimed Sunday that despite previously advocating for the same immigration policies as President Donald Trump, his positions are “racist” but hers were not.”

“[My immigration positions] certainly weren’t empathetic and they were not kind and I did not think about suffering in other people’s lives,” Gillibrand told Tapper as she tried to defend herself against charges of hypocrisy.

Tapper refused to allow Gillibrand to get off that easy though.

“You said Trump’s immigration positions are racist — that’s the word you used, racist,” Tapper said, grilling the Democratic Senator on the spot.

“If Trump’s immigration positions are racist, were they racist when you held some of those positions as well?” he asked.

That one question ended Gillibrand’s hopes of winning the White House.

Her record in DC reeks of political jockeying.

Gillibrand is the quintessential and consummate politician who goes where she thinks the wind is blowing.

During her time in the House of Representatives, Gillibrand claimed to be a staunch supporter of immigration enforcement, as well as a harsh critic of illegal immigration and open borders.

She even went so far as to say “you have to close the borders” and touted her record of “removal of illegal aliens by expanding detention capacity and increasing the number of Federal District Court judges” in a 2007 interview.

Now, Gillibrand wants to claim those same proposals are “racist”, despite the fact that she championed them just a decade ago in the House of Representatives.

Her political evolution on the issue of immigration matches up nicely with President Trump’s campaign for President.

It seems likely that the Democratic Senator decided to move to the left on immigration simply to appease what she thought was the shifting attitudes of the Democratic electorate, especially in the wake of President Trump’s election in 2016.

And now that she’s running for president, Gillibrand wants to attack President Trump’s record as “racist” despite the fact that she has a voting record in Congress in support of much of the President’s agenda.

This will destroy her presidential ambitions in the Democratic primary, let alone in a general election against President Trump.
