Chuck Schumer was in a bind.
The top Senate Democrat was scrambling to put out a political fire that could cost his party the 2020 election.
But in his effort to perform damage control, Chuck Schumer told a massive lie that instantly backfired in one major way.
During the third Presidential debate, Texas Congressman Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke tried to breathe life into his flagging campaign by declaring as President he would ram through laws allowing the government to confiscate Americans’ firearms.
“Hell, yes, we’re going to take your AR-15, your AK-47,” O’Rourke roared.
“We’re not going to allow it to be used against our fellow Americans anymore,” O’Rourke added.
“If the high-impact, high-velocity round, when it hits your body, shreds everything inside of your body because it was designed to do that so that you would bleed to death on a battlefield … when we see that being used against children,” O’Rourke concluded.
This clip terrified Democrats.
The left spent decades hiding their true intentions to ban and confiscate firearms behind poll tested slogans about only wanting “common sense” gun reform.
Top party officials instantly realized that era of make believe was gone in the 60 seconds it took O’Rourke to deliver the essential truth that Democrats want to grab guns.
Delaware Senator Chris Coons told the press O’Rourke’s words would be played at gun rallies “for years.”
Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer tried to recover as best he could.
Schumer knows that Democrats winning the four seats necessary to wrest outright control of the Senate from Republicans depends on winning the race in pro-gun states like Arizona, Georgia, Iowa, and North Carolina and tried to spin the press.
“I don’t know of any other Democrat who agrees with Beto O’Rourke, but it’s no excuse not to go forward,” Schumer falsely claimed in a gathering with reporters.
This is a lie.
Many Democrats support gun confiscation.
In an interview with CNN after O’Rourke’s call to confiscate firearms, New Jersey Senator and Democrat Presidential Cory Booker repeated his call for confiscating so-called “assault weapons.”
“Look, we as a society have gotten weapons of war off of our streets in the past. In the 1980s it was machine guns. We collectively agreed these guns do not belong on our streets, and we got rid of them,” Booker told host Erin Burnett. “We can do that with these assault rifles that are the tool of choice for mass murderers, and most Americans agree with that.”
California Senator and Democrat Presidential candidate Kamala Harris also supports confiscating Americans’ guns.
A student in the audience at “The Tonight Show” asked if Harris supported the government confiscating firearms.
“Great question. I do believe that we need to do buybacks and I’ll tell you why,” Harris answered. “First of all, let’s be clear about what assault weapons are. They have been designed to kill a lot of human beings quickly. They are weapons of war with no place on the streets of a civil society. I’ve seen assault weapons kill babies and police officers.”
Finally, former Vice President Joe Biden declared in an August interview with CNN that he supports the government confiscating guns.
Fake news CNN anchor Anderson Cooper asked, “So, to gun owners out there who say, well, a Biden administration means they’re going to come for my guns?”
Biden responded, “Bingo. You’re right if you have an assault weapon. The fact of the matter is, they should be illegal, period. Look, the Second Amendment doesn’t say you can’t restrict the kinds of weapons people can own. You can’t buy a bazooka. You can’t have a flame thrower.”
Schumer knew he was in big trouble the second O’Rourke made those remarks about kicking down doors and taking guns.
No matter how Schumer tries to spin the situation, Democrats are now out of the closet and supporting the government going house to house and confiscating firearms.
