obama 1.8

Two years after leaving office, Barack Obama remains the head of the Democratic Party.

The left’s love of Obama contrasts with their hatred for the current President, Donald Trump.

Yet something from Barack Obama’s past is haunting the Democrats in one major way.

Despite President Obama’s status as the de-facto head of the Democratic Party nearly two years after him leaving office, his legacy is now coming back to haunt Democrats in a way nobody expected.

With the Federal government shutdown now entering its third week, President Trump has found an unexpected ally in his battle with Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer over funding for a wall along the southern border with Mexico.

Breitbart reports, “President Donald Trump used the words of former President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton for a border barrier and against illegal immigration to advocate Sunday for the same things.”

In 2005, then-Senator Obama spoke at a news conference where he strongly voiced his support for securing the southern border and building a wall. His comments are now being used by Trump against Pelosi and Schumer.

“We simply cannot allow people to pour into the United States undetected, undocumented, unchecked, and circumventing the line of people who are waiting patiently, diligently, and lawfully to become immigrants in this country,” Obama said.

Obama’s comments echo almost exactly the same argument President Trump has been making about border security for years.

The President went so far as to tweet the Obama quote over the weekend, along with similar comments from Hillary Clinton in 2015.

“We simply cannot allow people to pour into the United States undetected, undocumented, unchecked…” Barrack Obama, 2005. I voted, when I was a Senator, to build a barrier to try to prevent illegal immigrants from coming in…” Hillary Clinton, 2015.”

Trump has relentlessly used Obama and Clinton’s comments against Congressional Democrats, accusing Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer of hypocrisy and playing politics.

Pelosi and Schumer refuse to negotiate or budge so far on the wall.

However, Obama and Clinton’s comments show just how far the Democratic Party has moved to the left on immigration in just a few years.

While Obama’s comments were made over a decade ago, Clinton’s remarks came at the start of her own run for President in 2015, less than three years ago.

Since then, the Democrats have largely become a party of open borders and amnesty, yet even that is now considered too far to the right.

When the White House floated a compromise to enact DACA protections for the children of illegal immigrants in exchange for a wall, Democrats walked out.

The Democratic Party no longer supports any sort of commonsense immigration reform, to say nothing to building a wall or securing the border.

Yet, Trump’s use of Obama’s own comments against Congressional Democrats is sure to strengthen his position as the President points out the hypocritical and contradictory nature of the current Democratic position on border security.

Whether Obama’s own comments come back to ruin the nearly unanimous Democratic opposition to a wall is yet to be seen.

But there is no denying that his words are now being used against his own party.

Do you think that Obama and Hillary’s comments show Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer to be hypocrites?
