Obama’s Russiagate is proving disastrous for the Democratic Party.

Bureaucratic positions within the federal government became positions of power with no accountability to voters.
It was bureaucrats within the IRS that targeted conservative organizations for additional screening during the Obama years.
The FBI targeted Trump for additional scrutiny, while they were ignoring Clinton’s huge email scandal.
The FBI used information from the Steele dossier that was paid for by the Clinton campaign, which was repackaged so they looked like they had multiple sources, and didn’t mention that Steele thought the witnesses were unreliable.
The FBI then went on to wiretap Michael Flynn and used that information to set up a trap that was only just revealed.
The FBI knew Flynn hadn’t said anything wrong in his conversation with the Russian ambassador, they were just out to get him.
This should never happen again and Sen. Rand Paul wants to guarantee it.
He is advocating for an amendment to the USA FREEDOM Reauthorization Act of 2020 that would protect other Americans from being spied on the way Michael Flynn and the Trump campaign were.
“It flies in the face of our Constitution that a secret court can authorize invading an innocent American’s privacy. Recent months have once again made all too clear how such a system leads to abuse. It’s time for Congress to stop paying lip service to reform and pass real safeguards that respect Americans’ rights. What happened to General Flynn and President Trump should never be allowed to happen again,” said Sen. Paul.
The proposed amendment would still allow the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court to give warrants, but only for non-Americans.
If the federal government wanted to conduct surveillance on an American, they would have to apply for a warrant from a regular federal court.
The amendment would also prohibit the government from introducing into evidence any information acquired in order to use it against a person in court unless they had a warrant, but would allow an American to use unfairly gathered evidence in their defense.
“What happened to General Flynn and President Trump should never be allowed to happen again,” Rand Paul said.
The underhanded way that the FBI targeted the Trump campaign and Flynn is disgraceful.
The FBI spied on a political campaign without any justification in order to try and change the outcome of the 2016 election, and must never happen again if we want a fair and free democracy.
