“The administrative costs for healthcare plans are expected to explode by more than a quarter of a trillion dollars over the next decade, according to a new study published by the Health Affairs blog,” The Hill reports.

The reason is Obamacare.

“The roughly $6 billion in exchange start-up costs pale in comparison to the ongoing insurance overhead that the Affordable Care Act (ACA) has added to our health care system — more than a quarter of a trillion dollars through 2022,” the study reports.

“The $273.6 billion in added insurance overhead under the ACA averages out to $1,375 per newly insured person per year,” the study finds.

“The $270 billion in new costs, for both private insurance companies and government programs, will be ‘over and above what would have been expected had the law not been enacted,’” writes one of the study’s authors, David Himmelstein.

“This number – 22.5 percent of all new spending going into overheard – is shocking even to me, to be honest. It’s almost one out of every four dollars is just going to bureaucracy,” says the study’s other author, Steffie Woolhandler.

During the debate over the passage of Obamacare, opponents pointed out it seemed the only thing Obamacare would accomplish would be to crash the nation’s health care system and force a total government takeover of the health care industry.

Obamacare supporters said it would reduce costs, and any suggestion it would lead to a government-run system were ludicrous.

But now the rising costs caused by Obamacare are leading to calls for a total government takeover.

“In contrast, a universal single payer system would pare down both insurers’ and providers’ overhead, yielding huge administrative savings — $375 billion in 2012 according to one recent estimate,” the study claims.

“In health care, public insurance gives much more bang for each buck,” the study says, ignoring all known facts about, and history of, government-run health insurance.

Using Obamacare to wreck the nation’s health care system and pave the way to socialized medicine was the plan all along, Senate Democrat leader Harry Reid admits.

“What we’ve done with Obamacare is have a step in the right direction, but we’re far from having something that’s going to work forever,” Reid told a PBS program in 2013.

When asked by show panelist Steve Sebelius whether Obamacare would lead to a totally government-run health care system, Reid couldn’t contain his excitement.

“Yes, yes. Absolutely, yes,” gushed Reid.

With Obamacare adding a quarter-TRILLION dollars in costs, we’re halfway there.
