Harry Reid is back at it.

He’s once again assuming his role as a smear campaign merchant.

But Trey Gowdy is having none of it and destroyed the top Senate Democrat in some epic interviews.

After FBI Director James Comey announced he was reopening the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server, Reid blasted the decision, claiming Comey violated the Hatch Act, which prevents government employees from engaging in partisan campaign activities.

Trey Gowdy laughed off Reid’s assertions.

Using that infamous humor and bluntness he’s known for, Gowdy highlighted the ridiculous nature of Reid’s charges, saying Reid must be on drugs to have dreamed up such an accusation.

RedState reports:

“Well thank God he’s leaving, is my initial reaction. My second reaction is, I did not know Mormon’s used drugs. Anybody who is capable of sending out that press release has to be under the influence of something. The person responsible for this fact pattern is Secretary Clinton. Jim Comey did not tell her to use a private server.”

Gowdy also ripped Reid on Fox News for his baseless 2012 smear against Mitt Romney of not paying taxes for 10 years. Gowdy claimed it was a total lie but still did enough damage by gobbling up media coverage and hurting the Republican ticket.

The Washington Times reports:

“I can’t really use the word I want to use because it would get us in trouble with the FCC, yeah, so we’ll just go with political hack,” Mr. Gowdy, South Carolina Republican, said on Fox News.

“It is laughable that Jim Comey committed a violation of the Hatch Act,” said Mr. Gowdy, a member of the House oversight committee.

“I actually know what the Hatch Act is,” he said. “If the president of the United States actively campaigning on company time for another candidate to be president of the United States is not a violation of the Hatch Act, then how is Jim Comey supplementing the record and telling the truth to Congress a violation of the Hatch Act?”

“Harry Reid knows that this is not a violation,” Mr. Gowdy said, pointing out that Mr. Reid made baseless accusations from the Senate floor in 2012 that Mitt Romney didn’t pay taxes for 10 years.

“So he is a political hack, and I would say more than that if I weren’t going to get fined by the FCC,” Mr. Gowdy said.

And during an interview on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, Gowdy hammered the Clintons for being the responsible parties.

He noted that the only reason this is a story is because Hillary Clinton schemed to evade the law by setting up an illegal private server.

Harry Reid is clearly running interference for Hillary Clinton.

Since the announcement that the FBI has reopened the criminal investigation into her email server, Democrats have adopted the tactic of smearing the messenger.

Hillary Clinton’s crimes are so clear, Democrats see no other way out but to discredit Director Comey.

Will it work?
