Barack Obama just can’t help himself.
Even during times of international crisis, he always makes time for a round of golf.
But this time he got caught and it created a huge embarrassment.
Just before Christmas, terrorists struck in multiple countries across the globe.
The Russian Ambassador to Turkey was assassinated at an art gallery by an Islamic terrorist in retaliation for Russia’s bombing campaign against ISIS and other so-called “rebels” in the Syrian Civil War.
ISIS also claimed responsibility when a Tunisian man drove a truck into a Christmas market in Berlin killing twelve innocent civilians and wounding nearly 50 others.
Despite these catastrophes unfolding across the globe, Obama still made time for golf.
The Daily Caller reports:
“An assassination in Turkey and suspected terrorist attack in Berlin haven’t stopped Barack Obama from golfing while he is on vacation in Hawaii.
According to a White House pool report, the president left his vacation home in Kailua Monday morning to play a round of golf under cloudy skies at the Mid-Pacific Country Club.
Meanwhile, a lone Turkish gunman assassinated Russia’s ambassador to Turkey at an art exhibit in Ankara and shouted “Don’t forget Syria!” and “Don’t forget Aleppo!” afterwards. The gunman was later killed by officers during a shootout.
At least nine people are dead and more than 50 are injured after a truck driver plowed into a Christmas market in a public square in Berlin, Germany.
The president was joined on the links by Bobby Titcomb, Greg Orme and Joe Paulsen, the pool noted.
“This morning the President was briefed by his National Security Team on the assassination of the Russian Ambassador to Turkey in Ankara today,” Principal Deputy Press Secretary Eric Schultz said in a statement. “The President directed his team to provide updates as warranted.”
This isn’t the first time Obama’s golf addiction has created poor optics that damage him politically.
After American journalist James Foley was beheaded by ISIS savages in 2014, Obama issued a perfunctory denunciation – and then proceeded to go play golf.
He was roundly criticized for not issuing a forceful response to the death of an American citizen at the hands of a terrorist group.
Many used this incident as an example that Obama was not taking these terrorist threats seriously.
Obama later admitted it was a poor decision to take in a round of golf so soon after terrorists murdered an American citizen.
The Telegraph reports:
“There’s no doubt that – after having talked to the families, where it was hard for me to hold back tears listening to the pain that they were going through – after the statement that I made, that you know, I should’ve anticipated the optics,” he said.
But Obama has now played over 300 rounds of golf as President.
It’s clearly one of his favorite activities of leisure.
Should he have played golf – again – after these recent terrorist attacks?
