In the liberal land of the Hollywood elites and leftist ideologues, state legislators are fast-tracking a bill to make California the first “Sanctuary State”.
California, and particularly the sanctuary city of Los Angeles, has one of the largest populations of illegal immigrants with criminal histories in the country.
But despite the dangers posed to its citizens, the state’s leaders continue their defiance of the law – and are now taking it one step further.
California has been the most vocal state about protecting its large population of illegal immigrants, and now aims to make the title official with the passage of SB 54, which intends to “Protect California’s People and Prosperity Against Immigration Enforcement Overreach.”
According to Newsmax:
SB54, authored by Senate pro Tem Kevin De Léon (D-Los Angeles) and Sen. Richard Pan (D-Sacramento), is scheduled to be heard in the State Senate’s Public Safety Committee.
It is likely, however, that the new legislation is not even necessary since Gov. Jerry Brown signed SB4 — the “Trust Act” — to make California a ‘sanctuary state’ back in October 2013. This bill will do exactly what that bill claimed to do — namely, prevent law enforcement officials from cooperating with federal immigration authorities
According to Senator De Léon’s website, SB54 (along with two other bills designed to provide state funds for legal defense for anyone ordered deported) is to be known as “Protecting California’s People and Prosperity Against Immigration Enforcement Overreach.” De Leon has ordered these measures “to prevent the use of state and local resources, including personnel, for immigration enforcement; and the creation of a federal registry” fast-tracked, meaning the normal schedule of hearings that can take weeks will be compressed into less than a week.
Now those who are supposed to protect citizens from crime – local law enforcement – are being told they will face charges or possibly termination if they work with federal immigration authorities in reporting criminal illegal immigrants.
And if law enforcement personnel are not allowed to enforce the law, the wave of violent crimes being committed by illegal immigrants in California is set to skyrocket.
The state of California remains a hotbed for illegal immigrants with violent backgrounds, particularly those coming across the border from Mexico and other Central American countries.
Los Angeles, in particular, has the highest incidences of gang-related crime in the nation – and most of the problem stems from illegal immigrants who are drawn to California’s lax enforcement of the law and the liberal tolerance of its legislators.
In the city of Los Angeles alone, 95 percent of all outstanding warrants for homicide issued are for illegal immigrants, and two-thirds of all felony warrants are for illegal immigrants.
The statistics and the crimes are staggering.
The local City Journal reported on the frightening increase in crime committed by illegal immigrants, and the inability of law enforcement to do anything at all to protect California’s citizens:
“ In Los Angeles, for example, dozens of members of a ruthless Salvadoran prison gang have sneaked back into town after having been deported for such crimes as murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and drug trafficking. Police officers know who they are and know that their mere presence in the country is a felony. Yet should a cop arrest an illegal gangbanger for felonious reentry, it is he who will be treated as a criminal, for violating the LAPD’s rule against enforcing immigration law.”
And these crimes are not just relegated to the city of Los Angeles. A high-profile case involving a young woman in San Francisco who was murdered by an illegal immigrant drew national attention.
Kate Steinle was shot and killed while walking with her family – and the man who shot her was a convicted felon who had previously been deported several times.
It is hard to believe that state legislators want to protect criminal illegals from prosecution and deportation.
But more shocking still is the fact the predominantly liberal citizens of California themselves stand behind their leaders in declaring their intent to defy any attempts made by President Trump to further secure the safety of the American people.
Some Californians have gone so far as to start a campaign for state sovereignty in order to protect the criminal illegal immigrants who prey on them.
It remains to be seen how many more innocent Americans will lose their lives in the state of California in order to protect those who have no regard for the law — or how many lives will be taken from the very people who are fighting so hard to protect them.
