Donald Trump claims he lost the popular vote because three to five million illegal votes had been cast.

The left howled in outrage, and Barack Obama even claimed election fraud is “fake news”.

But does this one study prove the left wrong and Trump right?

Trump has long contended Hillary Clinton won the popular vote with the aid of illegal votes.

The media claimed this theory has been debunked and tried to smear Trump as a “liar.”

But a 2014 paper published by two political scientists for Election Journal Studies claims between 38,000 and 2.8 million non-citizens voted in the 2008 election.

Trump has previously said that the studies and evidence provided to him back up his claims of illegal voting, and this could be one of the studies mentioned.

The Daily Caller reports:

“Old Dominion University professors Jesse Richman and David Earnest, the study’s co-authors, concluded that “some non-citizens participate in U.S. elections, and that this participation has been large enough to change meaningful election outcomes including Electoral College votes, and Congressional elections.”

“In spite of substantial public controversy, very little reliable data exists concerning the frequency with which non-citizen immigrants participate in United States elections. Although such participation is a violation of election laws in most parts of the United States, enforcement depends principally on disclosure of citizenship status at the time of voter registration,” Richman and Earnest note.

“We find that some non-citizens participate in U.S. elections, and that this participation has been large enough to change meaningful election outcomes including Electoral College votes, and Congressional elections. Non-citizen votes likely gave Senate Democrats the pivotal 60th vote needed to overcome filibusters in order to pass health care reform and other Obama administration priorities in the 111th Congress,” they continue.

The authors later say that the number of non-citizen voters “could range from just over 38,000 at the very minimum to nearly 2.8 million at the maximum.”

Richman’s study found 6.4 percent of non-citizens voted in 2008 and 2.2 percent in 2010.

Wired.com reports that according to Richman’s study – if the numbers are accurate – Hillary Clinton would have received about one million votes from non-citizens:

“Here’s what the math should look like (that is, if Richman’s initial study was accurate—which many researchers doubt). If 6.4 percent of the estimated 20.3 million non-citizens in the US voted and if just 81.8 percent of them voted for Clinton (the percentage who voted for Obama in his 2008 study), that’s an added margin of a little more than 835,000 votes. In other words: Even with all of those supposedly fraudulent ballots, Clinton still would have won the popular vote by more than 2 million votes.”

While this still isn’t nearly enough to have swung the popular vote in Trump’s favor, it does prove that Obama is lying when he claims election voter fraud is “fake news”.

The press has repeatedly hounded the Trump administration over their claims about voter fraud swinging the popular vote.

They also berated Press Secretary Sean Spicer with repeated questions that if Trump truly believes voter fraud to be the case, why hasn’t he ordered an investigation yet?

So Trump responded by taking to twitter and announcing he had just ordered such an investigation.
