FBI Director James Comey has alarmed Americans with his conduct during the Trump-Russia investigation.

His questionable decisions left critics wondering if he was tipping the scales against Trump.

Now one key Senator is asking questions and they spell bad news for the FBI Director.

The FBI’s connection to the Christopher Steele memo is the subject of controversy.

Steele is the ex-British intelligence agent who was paid by both Republican and Democrat opponents of Trump to put together an opposition research memo.

His work included unsubstantiated claims and other allegations that were proven to be false.

But that was not the most eyebrow raising development.

Word leaked out that the FBI was willing to pay Steele $50,000 for his work.

Now Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley is asking why the FBI would pay someone who was hired by Donald Trump’s political opponents to investigate the GOP standard bearer.

The Daily Caller reports:

“Grassley, a Republican, has repeatedly pressed Comey about reports that the FBI cooperated with Steele and even offered to pay the former MI6 agent $50,000 to continue his research on Trump. FBI agents reportedly met with Steele in July and again in October to discuss his findings, which were laid out in a 35-page dossier published by BuzzFeed in January.

Grassley has expressed concern about those discussions because Steele was working on behalf of an opposition research firm (Fusion GPS) that was, in turn, working for an ally of Hillary Clinton’s.

“The idea that the FBI and associates of the Clinton campaign would pay Mr. Steele to investigate the Republican nominee for President in the run-up to the election raises further questions about the FBI’s independence from politics, as well as the Obama administration’s use of law enforcement and intelligence agencies for political ends,” Grassley wrote in a March 6 letter to Comey.”

Grassley was also alarmed by the fact Comey was unable to keep his story straight.

He has given contradictory answers about the FBI’s involvement with Steele.

The Daily Caller also reports:

“Ahead of a highly anticipated Senate hearing later this week, FBI Director James Comey is being accused of making inconsistent statements about the bureau’s relationship with Christopher Steele, the ex-British spy behind the Trump dossier.

Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley, the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, made the allegation in a letter sent to Comey on Friday.

“There appear to be material inconsistencies between the description of the FBI’s relationship with Mr. Steele that you did provide in your briefing and information contained in Justice Department documents made available to the Committee only after the briefing,” Grassley wrote to Comey.”

The memo attracted added importance when the FBI used it as part of the basis to obtain a FISA warrant against one-time Trump campaign aide Carter Page.

While the so-called “mainstream” media claimed there was no proof Barack Obama spied on Trump or his campaign, the FBI used the work of a researcher hired by Democrat partisans as part of their justification for a court to grant them the authority to spy on an American citizen.

The relationship between Steele and the FBI only further troubles fair-minded Americans who believe the Obama administration politicized every aspect of government.

Now the American people may finally get answers about this unholy alliance.
