oregon shootersOn October 1, 2015, a crazed killer went on a shooting spree at Umpqua Community College opening fire in two classrooms.

At least 9 students were murdered, and 9 were injured by the crazed shooter.

Victims were found slaughtered in several classrooms.

Investigators are still trying to piece together a timeline of events to fully understand what happened, and why.

According the New York Post, the shooter was specifically targeting Christians during his shooting rampage.

A tweet regarding the shooting obtained by the New York Post read:

“The shooter was lining people up and asking if they were Christian,” she wrote. “If they said yes, then they were shot in the head. If they said no, or didn’t answer, they were shot in the legs. My grandma just got to my house, and she was in the room. She wasn’t shot, but she is very upset.”

A live witness to the shooting, 18-year old Kortney Moore, was in the room during the shooting. She confirmed the shooter was in fact out to kill Christians that fatal afternoon.

Top Right News reported that Moore saw a bullet come through a window and watched her teacher get shot in the head. She also told News Review-Today the shooter was asking people to stand up and state their religion and then started firing.

Media outlets such as the Wall Street Journal reported that there was “total chaos,” and a teacher shouted to her students, “everybody out, we have to get out,” causing the students to scatter and find cover.

The Wall Street Journal reports many of the students and teachers ran towards the bookstore to take cover in a back room with the doors locked and the lights off.

Huddled in a dark room, shoulder to shoulder, they cried and prayed not knowing what was happening or if they would be next.

Students were killed for proclaiming their faith in Christ. Sometimes we think of murders happening in distant places, but the tragic events of that day are a sobering reminder that no one is untouchable. Americans must continue to pray for all who were affected in the shooting.

It’s horrific.

And according to the Wall Street Journal, Umpqua Community College had a no gun policy. So even if students wanted to carry a gun for self-protection, they were not allowed.
