Democrats thought they were going to shape the Benghazi Committee’s final report and protect Hillary Clinton from any political fallout.

Led by ranking member, Elijah Cummings (D-MD), Committee Democrats have been demanding a say on the final report involving the Benghazi attacks.

But Trey Gowdy responded in a way as only he can.

Gowdy was amused by the Democrats request, considering they have spent the entirety of the committee’s existence blasting it as a partisan fishing expedition.

Chairman Gowdy has brushed off all of those accusations and even criticized fellow Republicans for insinuating the investigation could help them politically.

Gowdy smacked down Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) when he declared the investigation was the reason Hillary’s poll numbers were sinking.

Because of Gowdy’s sharp rebuke McCarthy ended his bid to succeed John Boehner as Speaker of the House.

In response to the Democrats’ demands to help shape the committee’s final report, Gowdy fired off a letter.

Townhall reports:

“Your May 31st letter was mildly amusing but not altogether surprising,” Gowdy starts.

“It is mildly amusing that after two years of abject obstruction, after two years of not lifting a finger to assist the Majority with the investigation, after two years of doing everything in your power to prevent a report from being written, you now want to participate in the drafting of the report.”

The chairman’s letter takes an even more sarcastic turn when he starts to “refresh” the Democrats on how “helpful” they’ve been throughout the investigation.

“[Y]ou have spent far more time writing letters, selectively leaking material, and spreading mischaracterizations than you have actually participating in this investigation,” he writes.

Obama and Hillary could not have been pleased by this response.

While Gowdy has been careful to shield the investigation from partisan back-and-forth, it was his committee that discovered Hillary’s private email server.

It was his committee who also exposed the “stand down” order that had prevented military assets from rescuing our consulate personnel who were under attack.

While Gowdy has worked in a non-partisan fashion, it is still impossible to avoid the fact that the committee’s final report will be released during a Presidential election year.

But given the multiple lies Hillary told after the attacks, it will also be impossible to paint her actions in anything but a negative light.

So Obama, Hillary, and the rest of the Democrats have an interest in manipulating how the committee’s findings are reported.

But since the Democrats have spent two years trying to undermine the investigation, should they even have a say in the final product?

Any contributions they make will be tainted by their partisan goals to elect Hillary Clinton as President.
