Former President Barack Obama rejected initial plans for his 1.5 billion dollar library because it was not flashy enough.

But some are wondering about the real purpose of this flashy training center for left-wing activists.

According to the Chicago Tribune:

Architects Tod Williams and Billie Tsien revealed conceptual ideas for the project, said Obama critiqued an early plan of theirs as too quiet and speculated that the library could require a whopping $1.5 billion to cover construction, endowment and other costs.

That last bit of information, reported by the New York Post’s Page Six column, spread quickly on the Web as other media zeroed in the possibility that the Obama Presidential Center, as the library is officially known, might cost three times as much as the George W. Bush Presidential Center in Dallas.

The escalation is partly explained by rising endowment requirements for presidential libraries, but also by Obama’s ambition for his library, which will house a museum, archives and community gathering spaces that create a “center for citizenship.”

The architects “noted that it will be difficult to raise such a huge sum because Obama scrupulously declined to do much fundraising while he was still in office,” the Post account said.

Yet the more interesting takeaway came from ArchDaily, a global architectural website, which divulged Obama’s reaction to a preliminary design for the project.

“He said it was too unflashy,” ArchDaily quoted Tsien as saying. “He looked at what we did and he said, ‘I said you could be sort of quiet, but I think you’re a little too quiet.'”

Despite Barack Obama’s desire for flash, the biggest part of the library is his citizen training center.

New York Magazine reported the former President not only wanted activists, but celebrities like Bruce Springsteen, Chance the Rapper, Spike Lee and George Lucas to do classes there.

Some political activists think the real reason for all the flash and celebrities was to draw in young people with leftist causes.

President Obama began his political career as a community organizer where he helped recruit and train various leftist activists which became the cornerstone of his eventual campaign for the U.S. Senate and eventually the presidency.

This is the description from the official Obama website:

Campus Setting Will Include Presidential Museum, Public Plaza and Space that Features a ‘Working Center for Citizenship;’ Plan Revitalizes Jackson Park to Re-Establish Connection to Lake Michigan and Provide Open Community Gathering Space

Chicago, IL – Today, at a community event hosted by President and Mrs. Obama, the Obama Foundation released the conceptual vision and site map for the Obama Presidential Center.  More than a building or museum, the Obama Presidential Center will be a living, working center for engagement — an ongoing project for the community and world to shape what it means to be an active citizen in the 21st century. The Center will include a state of the art museum, classrooms, labs, and outdoor spaces, and it will conduct programs that will give visitors not just memories, but real tools to create change in their own communities. It will be based on the South Side of Chicago but, via partnerships, programs, and digital initiatives, have projects all over the city, the country, and the world.

In short, this will be a $1.5 billion indoctrination center for the next generation of Obama wannabes whose reach goes far beyond Chicago and to virtually the entire world.

No other President’s library has ever been used for political training and pushing a political agenda after leaving office.
