081009_obama_budoffInitial reports of the shooting spree that took place at Umpqua Community College reports at least 9 people were murdered, and 9 were injured by the crazed shooter.

According the New York Post, the shooter was specifically targeting Christians during his shooting rampage.

While the country gathers in prayer and mourns the loss of innocent lives from additional senseless murders committed by a deranged individual, Obama seeks to politicize the shooting.

In a speech after the shooting, Obama said our “thoughts and prayers are not enough.”

The Hill reports Obama’s failure to pass gun-control legislation has been the biggest frustration of his presidency.

Obama’s response to the shooting directed most of the anger at law-abiding citizens who own firearms. He called for more control.

Breitbart lists an excerpt of his speech:

“It cannot be this easy for someone who wants to inflict harm on other people to get his or her hands on a gun. What’s become routine, of course, is the response to those who are opposed to any gun control legislation. Right now I can imagine the press release is being cranked out ‘We need more guns, fewer gun safety laws.’ Does anybody really believe that? There are scores of responsible gun owners in this country. They know that’s not true. We know because of the polling that says the majority of Americans understand we should be changing these laws, including the majority of responsible, law-abiding gun owners. There is a gun for roughly every man, woman and child in America. So how can you, with a straight face, make the argument that more guns will make us safer?

We know that states with the most gun laws tend to have the fewest gun deaths. So the notion that gun laws don’t work or just will make it harder for law-abiding citizens, and criminals will still get their guns, it’s not born out by the evidence. We know that other countries, in response to one mass shooting, have been able to craft laws that almost eliminate mass shootings—friends of ours, allies of ours—Great Britain, Australia, countries like ours. So we know there are ways to prevent it. What’s also routine, of course, is that somebody, somewhere will comment and say, Obama politicized this issue. Well, this is something we should politicize.”

With 15 months left in office, Obama has nothing to lose and you can bet he will do whatever it takes to further restrict law-abiding Americans the right to protect themselves with a firearm.

The shooting was tragic, and CNN reports Umpqua Community College is a gun-free zone.

Bad guys don’t pay attention to “gun free zone” signs. All gun-free zones do is stop individuals from the ability to protect themselves and innocent bystanders.

Stricter gun laws are not the answer. Taking guns out of the hands of the good guys only allows those who wish to harm others the ability to do so in greater numbers.
