Nancy Pelosi has been wishy-washy about her future in Congress.

Conservatives would love to see her retire.

And she just admitted she was keeping a secret about her true intentions.

Pelosi admitted to reporters that would have retired from Congress if Hillary Clinton had won the election.

CNN reports:

“House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi said Friday she would have retired if Hillary Clinton had won the White House in last year’s election.

“If Hillary had won, I was ready to go home,” Pelosi said after her interview at The Monitor Breakfast, hosted by the Christian Science Monitor, in Washington. “It was really shocking that someone like Donald Trump would be President of the United States. We yearn for the day of a Mitt Romney or a George Bush or someone. But anyway, that motivated me to stay now.”

Pelosi, who has led the House Democrats since 2003, said she was staying to protect the Affordable Care Act — a signature item dubbed “Obamacare” but one she was heavily decisive in crafting eight years ago as then-House speaker.

Pelosi faced a surprisingly tough re-election battle to head House Democrats in November, just weeks after Trump won the White House. As the party did some soul-searching, a group led by Rep. Tim Ryan, an Ohio Democrat, said it wanted a new direction.

Pelosi would not say Friday whether she would seek to run the House Democrats again in 2018, saying she takes everything now “day to day.”

Could Pelosi have affected the election outcome if she would have retired if Hillary won?

Would anyone have voted for Hillary just to get rid of Pelosi?

It’s doubtful.

But she also has not yet her future for 2018.

Pelosi had led the Democratic caucus since 2002.

Her tenure has been marked by failure.

Under her watch, Democrats lost the 2004, 2010, 2014 and 2016 elections.

They enjoyed a brief four year majority in the House from 2007 to 2011.

During that time, Pelosi rammed through Obamacare.

But that decision cost the Democrats dearly.

In the years after they imposed Obamacare, Democrats lost over 1,000 seats at every level of government.

The party was decimated and its only remaining power centers are in urban areas and the two coasts.

Democrats would have been better off if Pelosi retired years ago.

She is a symbol of the coastal elitism that voters rejected in November,

But she stuck around and fought off a challenge to her leadership position.

Will she continue to remain in Congress?

If the Democrats don’t take the House in the 2018 midterms, she could announce she is stepping down rather than spend another two years in the minority.
