Is Megyn Kelly officially becoming a  has-been?

There was a time when it seemed the political commentator was at the height of her career. After all, Kelly spent 13 years working successfully for Fox News. She was also named one of Time Magazine‘s most influential people.

However, ever since she made the jump to working for NBC,  the famous journalist has slowly been reaching less and less viewers. It appears that Kelly may soon be past her prime.

A few different pieces of evidence point to this. For one, her interview with Alex Jones only placed third (and distantly so) in NBC network ratings during its first 30 minutes.

There are many more signs pointing to Kelly’s downfall. Based on an article from The Hill:

According to Nielsen Media Research, “Sunday Night with Megyn Kelly” brought in an average of 3.5 million viewers, marking the fewest viewers the show has drawn since debuting on June 4.

Kelly’s news magazine trailed both a repeat episode of CBS’s “60 Minutes,” which delivered 5.3 million viewers, and U.S. Open golf coverage on Fox, which was the highest-rated program in the 7:00 p.m. ET timeslot.

Among the key 18 to 49-year-old demographic that advertisers covet most, a re-run of ABC’s “America’s Funniest Home Videos” beat Kelly and “60 Minutes” by almost 40 percent.

Kelly’s program has been declining week-over-week from a rating perspective since launching three weeks ago with an episode featuring Russian President Vladimir Putin that registered an average of 6.2 million viewers.

A lack of viewership and interest for her interview with Alex Jones wasn’t the least of her problems, either. The interview sparked a large amount of criticism from families of the Sandy Hook shooting. This is in large part because of Jones, who described the massacre as a “hoax.”

News reports state that the Sandy Hook shooting killed 20 children and six adults. However, Jones (a radio host and conspiracy theorist) caused outrage with his refusal to believe that the event occurred. In the interview, Jones stated there was “cover-up and manipulation” in regards to proof of the shooting. He also explained that he has “watched the footage and it looks like a drill.”

Many signs point to Kelly’s shrinking from popularity. However, this controversial interview may just be a tipping point into the rest of her diminishing career.
