Iowa Republican Senator Chuck Grassley is the chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee.
He – as well as ranking member Diane Feinstein (D CA) – received a closed door briefing from FBI Director James Comey on the status of the FBI’s investigation into alleged Russia election meddling as well as supposed Trump ties to Russia.
Grassley followed up that meeting with some tweets that left everyone wondering if the FBI Director was telling the complete truth.
Shortly before Director Comey testified to the House Intelligence Committee, Grassley tweeted that Comey should tell the committee what he told him.
Grassley claimed Director Comey told him there was no evidence of collusion between Trump and Russia.
“After Comey briefing + doc review I can say @POTUS and Clapper R both right about this No evidence of Trump collusion w Russia.”
FBI Dir Comey needs to be transparent + tell the public what he told me about whether he is or is not investigating @POTUS

Comey did not follow Grassley’s recommendation.
Instead, he confirmed the existence of an investigation while refusing further comment.
“FBI Director James Comey confirmed Monday that the FBI is investigating Russia’s meddling in the 2016 presidential election, including possible links between the Trump campaign and Moscow…
…Comey told the House Intelligence Committee at a hearing that the bureau normally does not comment on the existence of counterintelligence investigations, but that he was authorized by the Justice Department to do so in this case because of the extraordinary public interest.
“This will also include an assessment of whether any crimes were committed,” Comey told the intelligence panel, explaining that the investigation began in late July. He said he could not give a timeline or comment further on the matter but pledged to “follow the facts wherever they lead.”
But Comey’s refusal to answer further questions allowed liberal to plow ahead with their preferred narrative that Trump cheated to win the election.
Comey carefully said the FBI was investigating if collusion took place.
He did not confirm any evidence of collusion.
And no evidence of collusion exists and no one has been able to produce any.
