When Donald Trump claimed Obama was spying on him, the media screamed in protest.
They claimed there was no proof.
But a frightening story just broke and it exposes just how far-reaching Obama’s spying on the Trump campaign actually was.
Carter Page was a Trump campaign advisor.
He had minimal contact with the candidate, but the media and Democrats frequently accused the energy executive of being in cahoots with the Russian government.
Page has denied all these allegations and no evidence has emerged to prove them.
Now reports have surfaced that reveal the FBI received a top secret FISA warrant to spy on Page’s communications.
The Washington Post reports:
The FBI obtained a secret court order last summer to monitor the communications of an adviser to presidential candidate Donald Trump, part of an investigation into possible links between Russia and the campaign, law enforcement and other U.S. officials said.
The FBI and the Justice Department obtained the warrant targeting Carter Page’s communications after convincing a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court judge that there was probable cause to believe Page was acting as an agent of a foreign power, in this case Russia, according to the officials.
The warrant was for 90 days and was renewed.
This leak clearly indicates that the warrant has expired and does not indicate the government found anything.
Had the surveillance caught evidence that Page was colluding with the Russians, it would have been leaked.
Page is not yet facing any criminal charges, so this politically motivated leak raises some frightening questions.
If the government has nothing on Page, this leak forever tarnishes his reputation by casting him as a foreign agent.
That type of politically motivated leak of intelligence is a hallmark of a police-state.
But Page welcomed the revelation and told ABC that Obama targeted him because he opposed his failed foreign policy:
“New York business consultant Carter Page told ABC News that he was “so happy” to learn that The Washington Post reported on Tuesday night that the FBI obtained a secret FISA warrant to monitor his communication last summer as part of its ongoing investigation into possible collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian government because it confirms that he had been the victim of “human rights violations.”
“There had been prior reports, but I was so happy to hear that further confirmation is now being revealed,” Page said. “It shows how low the Clinton/Obama regime went to destroy our democracy and suppress dissidents who did not fully support their failed foreign policy. It will be interesting to see what comes out when the unjustified basis for those FISA requests are more fully disclosed over time, including potentially the Dodgy Dossier — a document that clearly is false evidence, which could represent yet another potential crime.”
