Paul Ryan is trying to ram Obamacare 2.0 through Congress.
Conservatives are worried that he has misled Donald Trump about the bill.
And one Congressman is predicting it could be the end of Donald Trump’s Presidency.
Appearing on CNN, conservative stalwart Thomas Massie explained how he and other conservatives are trying to help Donald Trump escape the trap Paul Ryan has set for him.
Massie stated that Trump could be one-term President if this law passes.
“On Wednesday’s broadcast of CNN’s “OutFront,” Thomas Massie (R-KY) stated that he’s “afraid” President Trump is “a one-term president” if the American Health Care Act passes.
Massie said, “They may pull the bill from the floor, or they may push it to the floor, and if they do, I think it’ll fail.
He added, “We’re afraid he’s a one-term president if this passes. We are trying to save him.”
When asked about whether he was worried if Trump would campaign against him if he voted against the AHCA, Massie answered, “[I]n Kentucky, the vote against this bill is still the right vote, whether Democrats are for no or Republicans are for no, there’s just no constituency for this bill in Kentucky.”
Massie concluded, “[W]hen president trump took the advice of the Heritage [Foundation], the Federalist Society, and came up with a good Supreme Court nominee, he was a hero. But then when he started taking the advice of [House Speaker Representative] Paul Ryan (R-WI) and lobbyists here in Washington, DC, his ratings went down ten points. And I hope that’s what he sees from this, that we’re trying to save him from bad advice, and maybe he’ll start taking advice from those conservatives again.”
Massie – and other conservatives – point out that Ryan’s bill fails to achieve Trump’s goal of repealing and replacing Obamacare.
Ryan’s version of Obamacare leaves regulations and taxes in place.
It does not bring down premiums until after 2020, when Donald Trump will face the voters for re-election.
Massie has also stated that Paul Ryan and other Republican leaders have misled Trump.
The Washington Examiner reports:
“Rep. Tom Massie, R-Ky., one of the conservative lawmakers who is not supporting the Republican bill to repeal and replace Obamacare, said Tuesday that President Trump is getting bad information about how the bill he supports would affect healthcare.
“I support our president but in my judgement he’s receiving bad advice on the negative consequences of this legislation with respect to the cost of health care,” Massie wrote on Facebook shortly after he met with Trump on Capitol Hill.
“Furthermore, he’s been mislead about the political implications of this bill and even the likelihood of its passage Thursday,” he added.”
When George H.W. Bush broke his “no new taxes” pledge he was defeated for re-election.
Ryan and other establishment Republicans are leading Trump down a disastrous path.
They had misled him and not told him the truth about this bill.
And the implications for Trump and the GOP in 2018 and 2020 could be disastrous.
