From the day he first announced himself as a presidential candidate in 2007, Barack Obama never relented on his promise to close the terrorist detention facility at Guantanamo Bay.

Despite the overwhelming evidence those housed at Gitmo were the worst of the worst captured in the War on Terror, and maintaining the prison was what was in the best interest of American national security, Obama has schemed to empty the facility of the remaining jihadists.

He recently announced a plan to set free the remaining jihadists that even his own Secretary of Defense warned was dangerous.

Yet Obama is proceeding full-steam-ahead on the terrorist release program.

The most frightening news yet about the jihadists being given their walking papers from Gitmo emerged in testimony in front of Congress by Paul Lewis, the Pentagon’s “Special Envoy for Guantanamo detention closure.”

For the first time, the Obama regime made the jaw-dropping admission that Americans have been killed by terrorists set free from Gitmo.

The Associated Press reports:

Americans have been killed by prisoners released from the detention center at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, a senior Defense Department official told lawmakers Wednesday, triggering sharp criticism from Republicans opposed to shuttering the facility in the wake of deadly attacks by the Islamic State group in Brussels and Paris.

Paul Lewis, the Pentagon’s Special Envoy for Guantanamo detention closure, declined to provide the GOP-led House Foreign Affairs Committee with details. He would not say whether the incidents occurred before or after President Barack Obama took office in January, 2009.

“What I can tell you is unfortunately there have been Americans that have died because of (Guantanamo) detainees,” Lewis said during an exchange with Rep. Dana Rohrabacher, R-Calif.

Between the George W. Bush and Obama administrations, nearly 600 terrorists have been set free from Gitmo.

And American Patriot Daily has covered the story of terrorists handed get-out-of-jail-free cards by Obama returning them to the battlefield.

In fact, nearly one third of those turned loose from Gitmo return to jihad.

So why is Obama unyielding in his desire to close the terrorist detention facility?

It isn’t because he is acting in the best interests of American national security.

Americans have died at the hands of jihadists released from Gitmo. And more Americans are at risk if Obama succeeds in his plan to empty the facility of the remaining 91 terrorists.

36 of those 91 are set for release, as long as the Obama regime can verify security conditions in the countries set to house them.

But critics point out this is asking the impossible from some of the least stable nations on Earth.

The Associated Press also reports:

The committee’s chairman, Rep. Ed Royce of California, and other GOP lawmakers have also criticized the Obama administration for moving detainees to countries that are probably unable to ensure they don’t resume the behaviors that got them locked up in the first place.

“Countries like Ghana and Uruguay aren’t typical security and intelligence partners, but they are being asked to shoulder a heavy burden and responsibility,” Royce said.

Yet despite the piles of evidence suggesting setting terrorists free from Gitmo endangers Americans, and aids terrorist networks in their war against America and the West, Obama plows ahead.

Should Congress take the Constitutional steps to hold him accountable?
