You can put Barack Obama at the top of the list of leftists who are not handling Donald Trump’s victory very well.
He campaigned for Hillary Clinton like his reputation and legacy were at stake.
And in his year-end press conference, he made a statement about Trump’s victory that left everyone stunned.
It’s no secret Obama is no fan of Trump.
Obama represents the politically correct, snobbish, left-leaning culture Trump rallied millions of Americans against.
Before the election, Democrats – led by Obama – ramped up their rhetoric about what Trump’s win would mean to near apocalyptic levels.
But its clear Trump’s victory stung Obama to the core, and he is reluctant to let go of campaign trail gripes.
Speaking to reporters at what may have been his final press conference as President, Obama claimed that Trump’s victory threatens America to its core.
“It’s not only a vulnerability to foreign powers, according to Obama. There’s now a real risk of America abandoning the ideals and values that have bound the country together for 240 years.
Everyone should be scared about what that means and where it leads, he said.
Obama didn’t want Donald Trump to win. Though he’s ducked saying it in the weeks since the election, he meant what he said all through the campaign about being worried that the president-elect is now going to have the nuclear codes, that he and his temperament really are a threat to the republic.
Obama says he told Putin to ‘cut it out’ on Russia hacking
Standing at the podium in the White House briefing room, with Air Force One ready to take him and the rest of the first family to Hawaii, Obama said that he’s worried about threats that go much deeper than even that, or an incoming administration that appears aimed at ripping up the work of his presidency.
“How can we channel what I think is the basic decency and goodness of the American people so it reflects itself in our politics as opposed to it being so polarized and so nasty that in some cases, you have voters and elected officials who have more confidence and faith in a foreign adversary than they have in their neighbors?” he said.
His proof? All those Republicans who beat him up for years for being too close to Russia and Putin, and then jumped on board with Trump even as he was promising more cooperation with Russia and praising Putin — “A guy calls me a genius and they want me to renounce him? I’m not going to renounce him,” Trump explained at a campaign stop over the summer.”
Obama’s default state is like an arrogant college professor lecturing stubborn students.
And his year-end press conference was peak Obama arrogance.
While Russia may have passed emails to WikiLeaks, everything the privacy activists posted was 100% accurate.
There were no falsehoods or forgeries.
The American people were better informed about the campaign because of those emails.
Without WikiLeaks, no one would have known that the Democratic National Committee rigged its own primary to benefit Hillary Clinton against Bernie Sanders.
And the American people would have been kept in the dark about the collusion between the media outlets and the Clinton campaign.
The most glaring example was that CNN contributor Donna Brazile leaked debate questions to the Clinton campaign ahead of a Townhall during the Democrat primary.
Obama even smeared Republicans by claiming their political viewpoints amount to holding “Russian values.”
Politico also reports:
“The slippery slope, Obama warned, is coated with Siberian ice. Trump and his supporters, he said, haven’t just embraced Russia, they’ve embraced Russian values.
“The Russians can’t change us or significantly weaken us,” Obama said. “But, they can impact us if we lose track of who we are. They can impact us if we abandon our values. Mr. Putin can weaken us, just like he’s trying to weaken Europe, if we start buying into notions that it’s okay to intimidate the press. Or lock up dissidents. Or discriminate against people because of their faith or what they look like.”
Part of the reason Trump won was because he played offense against a nakedly partisan press.
The so-called “mainstream” media is used to being able to bully Republicans into abandoning their base or not attacking Democrats with the same fervor the left applies to come after the GOP.
But Trump refused to play by their rules and called them out for their biased and dishonest coverage.
Many Americans voted for Trump to send a message to the liberal media that they were fed up with the manner in which they stack the deck in American politics in favor of the left.
And Obama still refuses to accept the idea that people in America would like to ensure our government can properly vet those who wish to immigrate to our nation or seek asylum as refugees.
Instead, he smears this belief as “racist’ or “un-American”.
This was Obama’s final press conference and many Americans are relieved to be free from him looking down at them while he lectures his opponent about how everything they think is illegitimate.
