When President Obama drew a line in the sand for chemical weapons, many of our enemies laughed. Obama didn’t have a strong stomach for putting his money where his mouth was. Now that President Trump is in, he’s enforcing the red line Obama drew.
But that’s not the only red line Americans should be concerned about. You see, Syria and its big brother Russia have their own lines in the sand. And they are saying in no uncertain terms we shouldn’t cross them.
Trump crossed their line with his own red line assault when he said chemical weapons being deployed are against the interests of the USA. He authorized nearly 60 Tomahawks be launched against the Syrian base where the chemical gas seemed to come from.
But the gas might not have come from al Assad. It might have come from rebels fighting against Syria.
And now Russia and Iran are telling Trump + America to back off.
Russia and Iran have warned the US they will “respond with force” if their own “red lines” are crossed in Syria.
Following Friday’s cruise missile strike on a Syrian airbase, in retaliation for the chemical attack on Khan Sheikhoun earlier in the week, the alliance supporting Syrian President Bashar al-Assad made a joint statement threatening action in response to “any breach of red lines from whoever it is”.
“What America waged in an aggression on Syria is a crossing of red lines. From now on we will respond with force to any aggressor or any breach of red lines from whoever it is and America knows our ability to respond well,” the group’s joint command centre said.
This puts the USA in a delicate situation.
Trump just got done walking softly and carrying a big stick. He swung that stick so hard he knocked Syria bad, and now Russia and Iran are saying they’ll back their guy.
Syria wouldn’t be a problem for the US to handle on its own and in fact, we don’t want to have beef with them at all. But the truth of the matter is, innocent Syrians are being attacked with chemical weapons and Trump had to make it known that wasn’t’ ok.
But America can’t risk getting in a war with Russia and Iran. Iran has threatened to nuke us and Russia certainly has one of the strongest militaries in the world. If we get involved in another war, we are going to be in a world of hurt.
Our country is fatigued from war in Iraq, Afghanistan, and the rest of the middle East. We’re financially unstable and have few friends on that side of the world. Next time this happens, Trump should go to Congress and make a case for why war is needed. Otherwise, he’ll be putting Americans into a situation which will have no pretty exits.
