Screen Shot 2015-05-04 at 3.33.04 PMTrey Gowdy has been hounding Hillary Clinton for months on end.

He wants her to turn over her emails, which Hillary has been slow to do.

But in a shocking change, Gowdy has said he is prepared to let Hillary go with the emails she’s turned over already, without requiring her to hand over any more.

What would make Gowdy do such a thing you wonder?

It’s a very good question.

Gowdy’s indicated if he could get Clinton to swear under oath, at the risk of committing perjury, that she’s handed over all relevant emails then he won’t require any more.

“If she were, under some theory, able to say, ‘yes, I can promise you under penalty of perjury you have every single document you’re entitled to,’ that would probably shut off that line of inquiry,” he told Capital Download. “If she can, then it will be a short conversation.”

The problem here is Clinton is probably just like her husband and would look at an oath as nothing more than another empty set of promises to make.

Despite the protests of Democrats Gowdy insists there’s merit in the Benghazi investigation. He says with the unauthorized server having been discovered he and his committee have “broken new ground” and his dogged determination to get to the bottom of everything is warranted

Which is why it’s interesting he would let Clinton skate by with a simple one and done.

It could be that Gowdy’s angling to get a better hold on the whole situation.

Clinton has said she will appear before the committee, but only once, not twice like Gowdy’s requested.

Hillary’s lawyer said in a letter to the committee she is “ready and willing” to appear. But not the two times they requested.

“She will stay as long as necessary to answer the Committee’s questions, but will not prolong the Committee’s efforts further by appearing on two separate occasions when one will suffice,” he added.

Gowdy contends that everything he’s doing to get to the bottom of what happened on 9/11/12 is necessary.

He said what he’s doing is “incredibly newsworthy.”

“The narrative, at least for those who opposed the creation of our committee, was ‘every other committee has looked at everything; there’s nothing new under the sun; this is purely politics,'” he said. “How could you possibly have a thorough investigation into Benghazi if you did not even bother to interview the eyewitnesses who were on the ground the night the attacks happened?”

In response to Hillary’s lawyer telling the committee she’ only appear once Gowdy’s communications director said  “[we] will take his response into consideration” and determine a path forward.

“The committee has consistently shown it is interested in getting the facts and doing so in a deliberate and diligent manner,” Ware noted.

“As a result of the Benghazi Committee’s efforts, the American people now know about Secretary Clinton’s unusual email arrangement with herself, something that would not be known had the committee rushed to call the former secretary in November as Committee Democrats pushed.”

Let’s hope Gowdy doesn’t relent in any way, shape, or form.
