The Trump-Russia investigation just took another shocking turn.

A bombshell report revealed Donald Trump, Jr. and other campaign officials met with a Russian lawyer who claimed to have damaging information about Hillary Clinton.

But the real truth is even more shocking.

The New York Times dropped a report that stated a Russian lawyer contacted the Trump campaign and stated she had information that could be helpful to the campaign.

Trump, Jr., then-campaign Chairman Paul Manafort, and Jared Kushner attended the meeting.

The Russian lawyer – Natalia Veselnitskaya – claimed she had information about Russians who were supporting Hillary Clinton and the Democrat National Committee.

According to Trump, Jr.’s statement, the information never materialized and the true purpose of the meeting was to lobby to repeal a law that blacklisted Russian human rights abusers.

Now there are reports that the meeting may have been a set-up by the same Democrats who funded the fake news Christopher Steele dossier in a possible attempt to frame the Trump campaign.

Circa reports:

The president’s legal team said Saturday they believe the entire meeting may have been part of a larger election-year opposition effort aimed at creating the appearance of improper connections between Trump family members and Russia that also included a now-discredited intelligence dossier produced by a former British intelligence agent named Christopher Steele who worked for a U.S. political firm known as Fusion GPS.

“We have learned from both our own investigation and public reports that the participants in the meeting misrepresented who they were and who they worked for,” said Mark Corallo, a spokesman for President Trump’s legal team. “Specifically, we have learned that the person who sought the meeting is associated with Fusion GPS, a firm which according to public reports, was retained by Democratic operatives to develop opposition research on the President and which commissioned the phony Steele dossier. “

“These developments raise serious issues as to exactly who authorized and participated in any effort by Russian nationals to influence our election in any manner,” Corallo said.

Democrats pounced and declared the meeting was evidence of “collusion.”

But was it?

The meeting took place on June 9th.

The first hacks into the Democrat National Committee were reported on June 14th.

And the information the Trump campaign was promised was about Democrats colluding with Russia.

Trump supporters also pointed out this was a nothing story because all it proved was some campaign officials attended a meeting where an individual claimed to have opposition research about their opponent.

Mike Doran – a senior director on the National Security Council in the George W. Bush administration – also dismissed the report as a nothing burger.

The story proves nothing.

And it makes no allegations of wrongdoing.

But it’s framed in a manner to create a situation where liberals can breathe life into the fake news Russia scandal.
