Temperatures continue to rise in the crisis over North Korea’s nuclear weapons program.

The communist nation has developed missiles capable of striking the United States.

Now they are on the verge of making one move that could kick off World War 3.

Back in April, North Korea was threatening to conduct their sixth nuclear weapons test as way to honor their nation’s 100th anniversary.

There was speculation at the time that the United States would launch a military strike if they conducted such a test.

The test did not occur and tensions ratcheted down for a time.

But now that North Korea has successfully developed missiles that have the capability to strike the United States, they are once again floating the idea of another nuclear weapons test.

CNN reports:

“North Korea kept up its bellicose rhetoric against the United States on Monday as South Korean officials said Pyongyang may be preparing its sixth nuclear weapon test.

Seoul’s National Intelligence Service (NIS) told South Korean lawmakers at a closed door parliamentary session that it has detected signs of North Korea preparing for another nuclear test at its Punggye-ri underground test site.

Speculation of when North Korea would conduct another nuclear test has been rife this year, with it being pegged to various days important in North Korean history.

North Korea’s last nuclear test came in September, when it detonated what it claimed was a miniaturized nuclear warhead small enough to be mounted on a missile, though analysts say the claim is nearly impossible to verify.

Kim Byung-kee, a lawmaker of South Korea’s ruling Democratic Party (DP) said the NIS reported that North Korea “has completed its preparation to carry out a nuclear test at Tunnel 2 and Tunnel 3 of the Punggye-ri nuclear test site.”

He added the NIS said it had detected activity suggesting Tunnel 4 was being prepared for more construction work after excavation work was halted last year.”

North Korea developing the capability to strike the United States with nuclear weapons is an unthinkable scenario.

It would come close to Trump’s redline.

And it could trip World War 3.

Trump has announced that the era of strategic patience is over.

The past three administrations have kicked the can down the road in this issue and it has almost reached a point of no return.

The last step North Korea needs to take in order to have a nuclear weapon that could reach the United States is to successfully miniaturize a nuclear warhead so it can fit on an ICBM.

Given the progress Pyongyang has made with its nuclear weapons program, it is only a matter of time before North Korea perfects that technology.

That would put the United States in the position of either accepting that North Korea can now hold the world hostage with their nuclear program or being forced to take action.

And that could result in World War 3.
