polar ice capEven after fudging data, global warming fanatics can’t make growing ice disappear

“The North Polar ice cap is falling off a cliff,” former vice president and massage enthusiast Al Gore thundered in his 2007 speech when accepting the Nobel Prize for his climate alarmist film The Inconvenient Truth.

“It could be completely gone in summer in as little as seven years,” Gore bemoaned, in 2007. 2007 plus seven is 2014.

“Seven years from now,” Gore repeated, hoping to terrify people about the fact that all North Pole ice will be completely gone by 2014.

2014 has come and passed, and NASA satellites reveal an inconvenient truth about Gore’s claims.

“Updated data from NASA satellite instruments reveal the Earth’s polar ice caps have not receded at all since the satellite instruments began measuring the ice caps in 1979,” Forbes reports “Since the end of 2012, moreover, total polar ice extent has largely remained above the post-1979 average.”

“The updated data contradict one of the most frequently asserted global warming claims – that global warming is causing the polar ice caps to recede,” reports Forbes.

Not only is polar ice threatened, there’s more polar ice than there should be.

“The timing of the 1979 NASA satellite instrument launch could not have been better for global warming alarmists. The late 1970s marked the end of a 30-year cooling trend. As a result, the polar ice caps were quite likely more extensive than they had been since at least the 1920s,” reports Forbes.

That means that the baseline global warming conspiracy theorists are using to measure polar ice is abnormally high, and any loss of polar ice would be expected and normal.

But reality has a way of mocking environmentalist. Despite the fact polar ice should have receded naturally, it’s increasing.

“A 10-percent decline in polar sea ice is not very remarkable, especially considering the 1979 baseline was abnormally high anyway. Regardless, global warming activists and a compliant news media frequently and vociferously claimed the modest polar ice cap retreat was a sign of impending catastrophe,” Forbes continued.

“In late 2012, however, polar ice dramatically rebounded and quickly surpassed the post-1979 average. Ever since, the polar ice caps have been at a greater average extent than the post-1979 mean,” Forbes reports.

That means not only is polar ice not disappearing, it’s growing beyond the above-normal mark global warming conspiracy theorists use as their measure of “loss.”

Unfortunately for Gore, he can’t massage the truth as quietly as he can massage his glutes.
