Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats saw their world come tumbling down when the Nunes memo was released to the public.

It destroyed their year-long narrative that Donald Trump colluded with the Russians.

But when she tried to respond, Pelosi was shut down by the one person she never suspected.

Democrats had hung their hat on the rebuttal memo prepared by Adam Schiff – the top Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee.

His memo was in response to the devastating Nunes memo which detailed the FBI using the fake news Russia dossier to spy on Trump campaign aide Carter Page.

But before their memo could be released, it had to go through the same process as the Nunes memo.

First the House Intelligence Committee voted to send it to the White House for declassification.

Then the memo had to be reviewed by the FBI and intelligence community to see if it contained information on sources and methods that would compromise national security.

That’s where the trouble started.

White House counsel Don McGahn stated the document was filled with sources and methods.

Critics contend Schiff did this on purpose to embarrass the White House by forcing them to redact the memo and then accuse Trump of trying to initiate a cover-up.

Pelosi immediately lobbed back an attack claiming Trump was trying to conceal vital information from the American public.

She was following the playbook to a ‘T’.

The Daily Caller reports:

“White House counsel Don McGahn said in a statement Friday that Trump was “inclined” but “unable” to declassify the Democrat’s 10-page memo because it “contains numerous properly classified and especially sensitive passages,” according to Politico…

…In a stinging comment following the McGahn statement, Pelosi said, “President Trump’s refusal to release Intelligence Committee Democrats’ memo is a stunningly brazen attempt to cover up the truth about the Trump-Russia scandal from the American people.”

But her attack was undone by comments made by Adam Schiff himself.

Schiff admitted that the memo was filled with sources and methods.

He made this blockbuster admission during an event sponsored by the Christian Science Monitor.

The Daily Caller also reports:

“White House problems with the Democrats’ “rebuttal memo” on the surveillance of Trump associates are genuine and the document could disclose “sources and methods,” California Rep. Adam Schiff, the ranking Democrat on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence confirmed.

“We need to go through that and identify that which remains classified and would implicate sources and methods or investigative interests,” he said at a newsmaker’s breakfast meeting on Wednesday sponsored by the Christian Science Monitor.”

Schiff’s memo was a disaster.

Instead of blunting the impact of the Nunes memo, it revealed the Democrats as partisan hacks willing to compromise national security in order to score points against Trump.
