The so-called “mainstream” media built up the hopes of Democrat Party voters that Trump colluded with Russia to rig the 2016 election.

A constant streak of fake news stories convinced a sizeable chunk of Americans that evidence was lurking just around the corner that would prove Trump was a crook.

So MSNBC viewers were stunned when one of their top hosts made an unbelievable comment about the Russia investigation.

Hardball host Chris Matthews joined MSNBC’s coverage of former FBI Director Jim Comey’s congressional testimony.

Comey’s testimony was a letdown for the left on every front.

But there was no bigger disappointment than on the Russia front.

And Matthews vocalized that when he declared the collusion story “came apart.”

Fox News reports:

“Even MSNBC’s Chris Matthews is now having trouble with the notion that there was collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.

Sean Hannity called out the mainstream media on his show Thursday night for advancing the faulty narrative for months based on “innuendo.”

Reacting to the James Comey Senate hearing, Matthews said the Trump-collusion theory “came apart.”

The assumption of the president’s critics, his pursuers you might say, is that somewhere along the line in the last year, the president had something to do with colluding with the Russians. Something to do, the helping hand, encouraging them, feeding their desire to affect the election in some way. Some role they played, some conversation he had with Michael Flynn or Paul Manafort or somewhere.

But yet what came apart this morning was that theory.

Matthews called it “fascinating” to hear Comey testify that Michael Flynn “wasn’t central to the Russia investigation.”

This was obvious for months.

Every single person who had access to the evidence – whether they were a politician or an intelligence community official – all declared they had seen no evidence of collusion with Russia.

This list included California Democrat Diane Feinstein, former Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, and former CIA Director John Brennan.

Even the media’s stories used to whip Democrats into a frenzy over the Russia story all included caveats stating that their sources said they had seen no evidence of collusion.

But pundits and liberal activists brushed those aside and dove head first into the Russia conspiracy theory.

Will the Democrat base come to grips with the fake reality they bought into – that Trump is a Putin stooge – is nothing more than a fever dream fantasy?

Judging by the reaction to the election, the answer is going to be an emphatic “no.”

The more likely outcome is leftists will become even more unhinged and press new conspiracy theories.

Now that the collusion story has gone up in smoke, the left is pushing the theory that Trump obstructed justice.

There is also no evidence of this charge.

As the chief executive, Trump is within his right to fire the FBI Director, or order him to drop or initiate any investigation.

But the facts have never mattered in this case.

Throwing Trump off stride or creating a cloud of suspicion that forces him to resign the Presidency is the ultimate goal.
