Democrats are lining up to run against Trump in 2020.

The usual suspects – Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and Joe Biden – have all received significant attention.

But one surprising candidate could be about to challenge Trump.

Former Attorney General Eric Holder has always been a figure of great controversy.

Back in the final days of the Clinton administration, he recommended a pardon for the fugitive Democratic Party donor Marc Rich.

It was the first time ever a fugitive received a Presidential pardon, and Republicans accused Holder and the Clintons of participating in a kickback for a major donor.

Holder was tapped by Obama to be his Attorney General after his election in 2008 and immediately became embroiled in scandal with his conduct and race baiting comments.

He accused America of being a faction of cowards about race.

And he was held in contempt of Congress for his refusal to turn over documents regarding the fast and furious scandal.

In that debacle, the Obama administration was allowing straw purchasers to obtain firearms to send to Mexican drug carters.

The goal was to create enough chaos to force Congress to act on gun control.

Two border patrol agents were killed by weapons obtained in that program and it forever stained Obama’s Justice Department – which was led by Eric Holder.

Since Trump took office, he has signed up to help California in legal challenges with the new administration and he is working with former President Obama on a group dedicated to fighting GOP redistricting efforts.

Now he’s considering his political future.

And it may include challenging Donald Trump.

Yahoo reports:

“More than two years after leaving the Obama administration, former Attorney General Eric Holder is reentering the political fray.

His goal: to lead the legal resistance to Donald Trump’s agenda — and perhaps even run against the president in 2020.

Seized by a sense of urgency to oppose Trump and restore what he regards as America’s best self, Holder is mulling a White House bid of his own, according to three sources who have spoken to him and are familiar with his thinking.

“Up to now, I have been more behind-the-scenes,” Holder told Yahoo News in an exclusive interview about his plans. “But that’s about to change. I have a certain status as the former attorney general. A certain familiarity as the first African-American attorney general. There’s a justified perception that I’m close to President Obama. So I want to use whatever skills I have, whatever notoriety I have, to be effective in opposing things that are, at the end of the day, just bad for the country.

“Now is the time to be more visible,” Holder added. “Now is the time to be heard.”

Holder was one of Obama’s closest confidants.

If Biden doesn’t run, Holder could carry the Obama flame in the 2020 election.

Will Holder take the Presidential plunge?
