Tensions over North Korea’s nuclear weapons program have continued to escalate.

Donald Trump has worked to impose harsher sanctions and has threatened the rogue state with military action should they menace the United States with nuclear weapons.

But you won’t believe what happened next.

Shortly before New Year’s, Donald Trump responded to Kim Jong Un’s threat about having a nuclear button on his desk at all times by saying he had an even “bigger button” and that his “actually works.”

Establishment foreign policy thinkers were horrified.

They thought Trump was blundering the world into thermonuclear war.

But the exact opposite happened.

For the first time in years, North Korea reached out to South Korea for high level talks.

They agreed that North Korea would send a 400 person-strong delegation to the Winter Olympics in South Korea and that the two nations could engage in peace talks.

South Korea’s President Moon Jae-in credited Donald Trump for achieving this breakthrough.

Fox News reports:

“President Trump deserves “big credit” for kicking off the first talks between Pyongyang and Seoul in more than two years, South Korean President Moon Jae-in said Wednesday.

North Korea agreed Tuesday to send a delegation to next month’s Winter Olympics, which are set to begin next month in Pyeongchang, South Korea. The rival nations’ talks are the first sign of a possible thaw in their relationship.

he talks were held for the first time since 2015 and Moon credited Trump for sparking them, according to Reuters.

“I think President Trump deserves big credit for bringing about the inter-Korean talks,” Moon said at a news conference. “It could be a resulting work of the U.S.-led sanctions and pressure.”

Following Moon’s comments, his Special Adviser for Foreign Affairs and National Security, Chung-in Moon told Fox News: “I agree 100 percent.  Were it not for President Trump’s pressures, North Korea would not have come to South Korea. President Trump deserves credit.”
