Congressman Al Green (D-TX) has introduced Articles of Impeachment against President Trump.

While this preliminary step has a long way to go, most are questioning the timing of the charges.

His main claim is that Trump fired former FBI Director Comey while he was investigating the President.

Yet, in sworn Congressional testimony, Comey says very clearly he was not investigating President Trump.

Comey also told President Trump on three separate occasions there was no investigation.

However, that did not stop Rep. Green from taking to the House floor:

More sane Democrats are telling the world, this is premature.

CNN reports:

“Top Democratic leaders on Capitol Hill have specifically urged members to not raise the specter of impeachment, arguing that they need to allow investigations already underway to uncover more details about the president and his team’s actions.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, appearing on ABC’s “The View” on Monday, didn’t seem to want to utter the “I” word.

“When that word comes up I always say to my colleagues in the Congress, my constituents, and people across the country what I said before: anything you do has to be based on data, evidence, facts,” Pelosi said. “So, you can speculate but it’s got to be the law and the facts and how they match up.”

Green did not give Pelosi or others any advance warning that he decided to move ahead with formally introducing the charges in the House, according to two senior House Democratic leadership aides.

The Texas Democrat revealed that after his public call for impeachment he received threatening voicemails and messages and told CNN the United States Capitol Police was investigating them.

During his May speech on the House floor, Green noted “this is about my position. This is about what I believe. And this is where I stand. I will not be moved. The President must be impeached.”

He also explained that this was the beginning of the process, “For those who do not know, impeachment does not mean that the President would be found guilty. It simply means that the House of Representatives will bring charges against the President. It’s similar to an indictment but not quite the same thing.”

Despite the reality that the stated facts contradict his position, Rep. Green persists in his efforts to impeach the President.

The Hill reports:

“A House Democrat will soon launch an official attempt to impeach President Trump.

Rep. Al Green, a Texas Democrat and member of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), is readying the articles of impeachment that mark the first official step in any congressional bid to remove a sitting president.

The articles have little chance of seeing the light of day in a House chamber controlled by Republicans, who have rallied behind Trump amid multiple investigations into ties between Russia and members of the president’s inner circle.

But Green’s gambit highlights the growing apprehension many Democrats have toward the president, and it’s sure to energize a liberal base that’s sounded the impeachment alarm with increasing volume as the Russian investigation saga has evolved.

Green’s criticisms focus on Trump’s firing of former FBI Director James Comey, who was leading the administration’s probe into Russia’s meddling in the 2016 election.

Trump had reportedly pressured Comey earlier in the year to drop the investigation into Michael Flynn, Trump’s former national security adviser, who was fired after lying about the nature of his conversations with a Russian ambassador.

It’s unclear when Green will officially introduce the articles he’s currently drafting. It’s also unclear if he’ll have any co-sponsors, though Green has not been alone in his calls for impeaching Trump. California Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters, another CBC member, has also beaten that drum.

A spokesman said Green will provide more details Wednesday afternoon, when he’s scheduled a press briefing in the Capitol.

“What I’ve said to members [is] the only thing that matters are the facts — the facts and the law,” House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Tuesday on CNN’s “New Day” program, when asked about impeachment. “That’s what [an] investigation will reveal to us.”

Green has rejected that argument, contending that Trump’s actions have already risen to a level demanding congressional intervention.

“This will remain obstruction of justice regardless of the findings of any investigation,” he said.

“Obstruction of justice by the President is the problem,” he added. “Impeachment by Congress is the solution.”

“This will remain obstruction of justice regardless of the findings of any investigation”

Well facts be damned…I don’t care about any findings of an investigation, I want him impeached?  Is this what the Congressman wants?
