Of all the lies and fake news that has come out of the Russia investigation, one falsehood stands out above the rest.

And it was promoted by Chuck Schumer.

But his lie backfired, and it’s become a disaster for the New York Democrat.

The big lie of the Russia investigation was that Donald Trump was a target.

Former FBI Director Jim Comey gave the impression Trump was under investigation when he testified before Congress and revealed that the FBI was probing the Trump campaign’s alleged ties to Russia.

But Comey was telling a different story in private.

He told Trump – as well as leading Senators including Chuck Schumer – that the President was not under investigation.

Comey’s public failure to correct the record infuriated Trump and allowed Democrats like Schumer to gum up his agenda by creating a storm of scandal.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley set the record straight with a blistering criticism of Schumer.

Breitbart reports:

“Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) blasted Democrats on Thursday — particularly Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) — for fueling media hysteria, knowing full well President Trump was not under investigation for collusion with Russia.

In a statement delivered on the Senate floor, Grassley said that in March, former FBI Director James Comey had told him, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), and the group of Senate and House members known as the “Gang of Eight” that the president was not under investigation.

But Schumer, who is part of the Gang of Eight, continued to tell the media Trump was under investigation, Grassley said.

“That helped feed the media hysteria,” he said. “The Minority Leader even tried to say that the Senate shouldn’t vote on the Supreme Court nomination because the president was under investigation. And the whole time, he knew it wasn’t true.”

In one instance, Schumer told reporters on March 21, “There is a cloud now hanging over the head of the president, and while that’s happening, to have a lifetime appointment made by this president seems very unseemly and there ought to be a delay.”

But Trump was never under investigation.

When Trump fired Comey, he said it relieved the pressure on him from the Russia investigation.

What he meant by that was, in his letter notifying Comey of his termination, Trump said the former FBI Director informed him three time he was not under investigation.

Despite fake news stories to the contrary, Comey confirmed this fact in his Senate testimony.

This was the first public acknowledgment of what Schumer and other officials had already been told privately.

Had Comey simply told the truth, it’s likely he would still be FBI Director.

But by publically saying the FBI was investigating the Trump campaign and Russia, Comey allowed speculation to run wild that Trump was some sort of traitor.

It was a despicable lie.
